  1. Having racked up some promotional credits at Amazon MP3 for purchasing some physical music product I decided to buy an OOP album - Don Friedman's A Day In The City. I could have bought the disc for $25, but instead I got the album for $1.99. I know there are still a lot of discs out there at places like Newbury, Oldies, and Daedalus but those won't last forever. It looks like shiny silver discs are just not going to make a comeback. I guess downloads are my future. SIGH.
  2. Made it to disc #6 of the Miles Davis: Complete Plugged Nickel - which is actually the seventh disc in the collection because there is a 2a and a 2b.
  3. My 3 year old heard Louis Armstrong singing on Porgy and Bess and said, "That's Cookie Monster."
  4. Whew! I got the email from MilesDavis.com about the Amazon deal, then got busy in a meeting and couldn't check the price. Glad I didn't miss an amazing deal.
  5. I've placed dozens of orders with Newbury through their Amazon storefront. Finally go to visit a store in Boston while travelling for work. Pretty good selection and even better prices. Wish there were more places like this around close.
  6. Use the Amazon.com advanced search LABEL = OJC and sort by price - low to high. You'll find lots more @ $1.99 Sorry.
  7. Funny this thread just popped up. I just received Vols. 1,2,4 and 5 today (Volume 3 arrived a couple of days ago from a closer Amazon distro). I've had these on my wish list for years. I saw the price drop recently on Amazon to $8.97 each (along with quite a few other OJCs...time to go hunting). I agree with the early comments in the thread about the sound quality and the consistency in the performances. Overall a very nice chunck of music...regardless of which coast from which it came.
  8. It's over. No more Blue Note RVGs, no more Connoissuers. No annoucement. Just fade to black.
  9. I was told by someone at Mosaic when I called that the Crusaders set was going to be back later this Month (November).
  10. The Oklahoma Tax Commission considered changing its name to take "tax" out of the name. One alternative that was considered and quickly discarded was Oklahoma Department Of Revenue (Odor) They're still called OTC.
  11. Available September 14, 2009. (Amazon shows October) Containing the best, and some of the rarest LP covers produced over the long history of the Prestige label, this deluxe coffee table book also features an insightful introduction by famed jazz documentarian Ira Gitler who wrote liner notes for many of Prestige's earliest and best known records. In addition, the book contains an exclusive bonus CD featuring music culled from several classic Prestige albums. Link
  12. There should be a special place in hell for the people whose job it is to make the saw cuts in jewel cases. Perhaps having that job is punishment enough.
  13. I just placed an order for Broom's Monk and Joey D's Silver. Love the tips of the hat to classic covers.
  14. I called to check on my order. I spoke to a very helpful representative who actually took the time to call the warehouse. She said that they had to order most of the items and that a large shipment had arrived today and they were in the process of matching the items to all of the orders. She took my number and promised to give me a call back before close of business. If all this checks out I will be very impresed and will add Oldies.com to my short list of CD sources.
  15. Order placed 7/3: The Big Soul Band by Johnny Griffin Cookbook, Volume 1 (Rudy Van Gelder Remaster Series) by Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis The Honeydripper (Rudy Van Gelder Remaster Series) by Brother Jack McDuff Jazz a la Bohemia by Randy Weston More Power! by Dexter Gordon Plays the Arrangements and Compositions of Gigi Gryce and Quincy Jones by Art Farmer Quintet Soul Call by Kenny Burrell The Tenor Scene (Live) Ugetsu K-2 (Live) by Art Blakey Nothing yet.
  16. "special order item" is now gone from all of my individual items.
  17. My Oldies order status shows: Order Currently Being Processed. But right above the item list is shows: Waiting for Back Ordered Products. And beneath each item is shows: Special Order Item. When I ordered all items showed available to ship in 1 - 3 days. I didn't really order anything that obscure, nothing OOP as far as I know. We'll see what happens. Good luck to the rest of you.
  18. Borders may be dead to me (no more music section in Tulsa, OK stores) but this thread lives on...
  19. PM sent on: Hank Mobley – Slice of the Top. (1995.). TOCJ-9217 Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers - The Freedom Rider.
