  1. Memorial Day plans?

I've got a gig on Saturday afternoon (not many of them lately, so wahoo!), then my parents arrive from NC for my son's high school graduation. The balance of the holiday will be spent with them.
  2. Ode to the Hep label

Can anyone tell me if the Nat Pierces duplicate the Zim lps? Also, I can heartily recommend the Buddy DeFranco disc. An excellent swinging live performance.
  3. Mulligan CJB, disc 4. Long live Bob Brookmeyer!
  4. Hi Guys I remember a lot of you from the Blue Note Board (I was "woodymaggie"). I thought I come over and dip my toe in the water. Pete
  5. Small Group Swing..any reccomendations?

Buck Clayton's Jam Sessions on Columbia. The Terry Gibbs-Buddy DeFranco Tribute to Benny Goodman and Kings of Swing. "Swing Reunion" on BOMC - Red Norvo, Benny Carter, Remo Palmieri, Freddie Green, Teddy Wilson, George Duvivier, Louis Bellson. A little known session that really grooves. Worth looking for.
  6. Tristano school stuff

At one time I owned the Tristano Memorial Concert box and I was less than impressed. The Warne Marsh tracks were brilliant, and the Sheila Jordan set was great, but badly recorded. The rest of the "artists" seemed to range from dreary to completely off-the-wall. I soon sold the lps after burning the Marsh tracks onto cdr. I seem to remember Liz Gorrill as being quite dreadful. Gary Foster is a fine player. His albums on his Bosco label are excellent.
  7. Richard (Richie) Kamuca

The album with Roy Eldridge "Comin' Home Baby" on Pumpkin label has long been a favorite of mine. It's a live date, a real swinger. A bonus is Dick Katz on piano.
  8. Roy Eldridge - Montreux '77. NHOP smokes on this one.
