Mine arrived today, safe and fairly sound...only minor rust on the box. The packaging is every bit as stupid as I've heard it was. I immediately put the cds in slimline boxes - I only see minor bits of glue, hopefully nothing to cause problems in playback.

In my case, the deal-breaker was that I had just attended an improvisation workshop by Eddie Gomez and Mark Kramer and I just wanted to hear more Gomez, especially in a piano trio context. And that it happens to be with Bill Evans, well, what's not to like?

Medjuck, thanks for cluing me to that website. Web-based discographies, if done well, really seem to be the best way to go since they can be constantly updated. Of course, I'm old enough that I still enjoy holding a book in my hand. I guess I'm just used to an older paradigm.

B-) Yeah, I grabbed it last night. I had a little extra cash to play with due to a couple of extra last minute gigs, so I decided to leap. It seems they list one a day between 8-9 pm (EST), so I decided to check in and search their listings whenever a timeout was called during the UNC-VA game. The next to last timeout, I scored it. At that price, I couldn't resist. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to exploring it during 2005.

I think mine came out to about 78 minutes. The cdr I made has all the material listed in the discography, but that's not to say that there might be more material out there unknown to Mr Bregman. There's no way to tell how many generations old the cassette I borrowed is, nor how much was originally recorded. Chuck's tape may be much "closer" to the source.

I'm the guy that digitized and propogated this particular set (you got if from the Jazz Vines group, I assume?). I got my info from the Bregman discography, but now I see that I dropped the July 14th date (same as on the webpage cited) due to a page break and my own inattention. Bregman does not cite any commercial releases, but his book is copyrighted 1993. I got it on cassette tape as a gift from a friend, a very experienced collector. The sound isn't too good, but hey, it's Bird, right? I think the real value in that pair of cdrs is the interviews, especially the blindfold test.

Oh yeah - "When I Stop Dreaming" - one of the best ever! "Walls of Time" - another great one. I think the Johnson Mountain Boys did a great version of that one - better than the original IMO.

I've noticed the same thing. A weak dollar makes for strong overseas sales.

Thanks. I'm looking for "Safari" specifically to try to complete my Oscar Pettiford collection. It is one of the most difficult to find titles on which he appears. In fact, probably only the legendary Delta 78 of "Dont Blame Me" and "Dedicated to J.B." is more difficult, and if anyone has copies of that PLEASE contact me!

If you want the full deal on the Savoy Peppers you'll have to hunt up the vinyl - "Discoveries" was the Savoy Jazz label 2-lp reissue, and "Rediscoveries" contained an additional lp's worth of alternates, certainly more material than the single cd.

My wife and I collect traditional Pennsylvania and North Carolina redware pottery. So happens she's a native of PA, I'm originally from NC, and they are two major centers where redware is made.
