Rooster_Ties
From the "music page" at Ms. Marchant's web-site... Listen to Marissa's music: My order form is at the bottom of this page. You can donate to this site, or you can send a love offering and possibly receive a cd, if the offering is a real show of support.

Joe G
We've been doing the "Love Offering" thing for a while now at the gigs. I wouldn't know how to make it work via the website. Suggestions?

JSngry
Not unless I was to like a self-produced demo-quality Sandy Hurvitz/Ezzra Mohawk kind of thing with no real sense of nuance, spacing, and timing, no. Sandy's album has already been here (at last) for over 30 years, but the news has not yet reached some quarters. More's the pity.

JSngry
Hey - I'm no stranger to wackjobs who also happen to be pretty gifted. Nor am I a stranger to wackjobs who just THINK that they're gifted. I just wanted to see if she was as purely wack as she came across, or if she might really have something going on to go with it. One never knows... She's got a good voice, that's for sure. Obviously trained and all that. But having something and knowing how to use it are two different things....
maren
Or marissam, do you mean: Toshiko Akiyoshi, Geri Allen, Dorothy Ashby, Cindy Blackman, Carla Bley, Karen Borca, Joanne Brackeen, Terri Lyne Carrington, Regina Carter, Marilyn Crispell, Lil Hardin, Bertha Hope, Susie Ibarra, Ingrid Jensen, Melba Liston, Marian McPartland, Renee Rosnes, Michelle Rosewoman, Irene Schweizer, Mary Lou Williams... et cetera
Joe G
Maren, I get the impression that Marissa was asking if there were any other female virtuosos on this board, besides herself. It's lonely at the top, don't ya know...

cannonball-addict
I hate to take the "fun" out of this post but this is an appropriate time to reiterate my love of these two REAL female virtuosi: Melba Liston, trombone Renee Rosnes, piano Unquestionably masters of their instruments. different time periods. too often taken for granted. -mm
JSngry
Some of my favorite records are "self produced" and "demo quailty". Well, sure! But how many of your favorite records are self-produced demo-quality Sandy Hurvitz/Ezzra Mohawk kinds of things with no real sense of nuance, spacing, and timing? Not many, I suspect!
