If you like 'Mo Greens' I'm sure you will enjoy this one too: I think it's still available as a Japanese import from the Bards at $16.99 - one of Freddie Roach's best. All of them are good! But that one, with Calvin Newborn and Conrad Lester - phew! If Freddie has one failing, it's doing his own sleeve notes. They're wonderful sleeve notes; I love them. But he doesn't say anything about the musicians playing with him. So I know almost nothing about Conrad, except he made four LPs, two with Freddie, one each with Joe Carroll & Jimmy McGriff. There's stuff in there I hadn't the faintest idea about. A very interesting read. Even though the best track on Heavy Soul doesn't even have Roach on it...I'm of course referring to that brilliant duet of Nature Boy between Ike & Milt Hinton.
