Three years ago, disc jocky/producer/historian/educator Phil Schaap opened a gift shop in the Jazz At Lincoln Center complex at 60th & Broadway in Manhattan . He quickly developed it into a unique shop with autographed CDs and books (many of them out of print), rare LPs, beautifully framed 78s signed by JALC director Wynton Marsalis and Lithographs by Christopher Paluso signed by the artist and either the subject or musicians associated with the subject. Alas, Schaap's unique shop has been replaced by a Borders kiosk, leaving Phil and his ever mounting collection of of jazz wonders without a home. True Blue Music has come to the rescue, offering over 80 of Phil's collectables at present and adding more all the time. The first printing of the second edition in two hardcover volumes. The 800-page first volume is a superbly researched, exhaustive biography of 80-year career as an important songwriter, arranger and instrumentalist in jazz and pop music. Trio 3 is Reggie Workman, Andrew Cyrille and Oliver Lake , three musicians steeped in muscianship, heritage and creativity. This 1999 album on Lake's label is exceptional. The trio explores their own originals and great pieces by John Carter, Bobby Bradford and Andrew Hill. Autographed by Reggie Workman.

George Coleman - My Horns Of Plenty (signed by the artist)- $28

This superb 1991 session, recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's studio, features the perfect quartet of Coleman, Harold Mabern, Ray Drummond and Billy Higgins in six masterful performances.

Kenny Burrell = Guitar Forms (signed by the artist)- $35

This classic album contains four pieces with the Gil Evans orchestra made in December 1964 and the balance with a quartet featuring Roger Kellaway, Joe Benjamin and Grady Tate from April 1965. A classic in this jazz guitarist's long and distinguished career.

David Fathead Newman - Mr. Gentle & Mr. Cool (signed by the artist)- $50

David Fathead Newman's 1994 tribute to Duke Ellington features a sextet of Newman on alto, tenor and flute, Jim Pugh on trombone, David Leonhardt on piano, Ron Carter on piccolo bass, Peter Washington on bass and Lewis Nash on drums. Robert Freedman arranged the eleven Ellington compositions. Highlights include the title tune, "Happy Reunion" and "Jeep's Blues." This CD is long out of print.

Benny Golson - Up Jumped Benny (signed by the artist)- $46

Benny Golson is in magnifcent form on this 1996 live recording from a Swiss club with an excellent young rhythm section: pianist Kevin Hays, bassist Dwayne Burno and drummer Carl Allen. This CD is out of print.

Lee Konitz - Portology (signed by the artist)- $30

After their triumphant "Inventions" album, alto saxophonist Lee Konitz and arranger Ohad Talmor collaborated with the Oquestra Jazz de Matosinhos of Portugal The band swings and performs the difficult charts immaculately. Konitz is in great form.

Randy Weston - Zep Tepi (signed by the artist)- $30

With Alex Blake on bass and Neil Clarke on African percussion, Weston explores 10 compositions from his 60 year career on this beautiful album.

Shiela Jordan - Portrait Of Sheila (signed by the artist)- $28

This intimate '62 date features the sensual voice of Sheila Jordan with the sensitive accompaniment of Barry Galbraith, Steve Swallow and Denzil Best. This CD is out of print.

Joe Lovano - Symphonica (signed by the artist)- $26

Lovano delivers a milestone recording with Symphonica, a bold and beautiful orchestral project recorded

Roy Haynes - Te Vou! (signed by the artist)- $35

This is an unusual and outstanding album for Roy Haynes. Recorded in 1994, the ensemble features Donald Harrison (alto sax), Pat Metheny (guitar), David Kikowski (piano) and Christian McBride (bass). It includes a range of compositions (Metheny, Ornette Coleman, Thelonious Monk, Chick Corea and others) and the playing is astounding throughout.

Roy Haynes - When It's Haynes, It Roars (signed by the artist) - $40

Haynes's 1992 quartet with tenor saxophonist Craig Handy, pianist David Kikowski and bassist Ed Howard dig into a wide range of material from Monk's "Bye Ya" to Chick Corea's "Steps" to the traditional "Brown Skin Girl."

Chico Hamilton - Hamiltonia (signed by the artist)- $40

This compilation collects the best from four albums on Chico Hamilton's own Joyous Shout Records, made between 2003 and 2007 by his ensemble with guitarist Cary De Nigris and a quartet of excellent saxophonists.

This Count Basie Lithograph by Christopher Paluso is in a black wood 25 x 37 frame with a blue-grey mat. The lithograph is # 275/500. Autographed by jazz greats: Junior Mance, Al Grey, Lee Konitz, Jon Hendricks, Louie Bellson, Wynton Marsalis, Clark Terry, Jimmy Woode, Gerald Wilson. Also autographed by the artist Christopher Paluso. Although other copies of this lithograph were made, only this one has these autographs. Only One!

Yeah, this was coming for a long time, and I just don't have a pile of dough to pick up the dozen or so that I want. I figured the RVG's would be around a bit, but that assumption obviously is false. The PJ's too that are going out of print will most likely never see a legit cd reissue again.

What a bummer.
