Way too much bass in that recording. They should have toned it down. But excellent music.

Hmm. Bass (and drums) are more prominent in the mix than what you'd normally hear -- but I assumed that was a deliberate decision.  Like they were making a "rhythm record" rather than a "sax plus rhythm record" -- if that makes any sense.

Of course, de gustibus . . .  ;)

Ravi Coltrane - From the Round Box (RCA Victor)
I really like this one. There's something floating and elusive about it. Everyone plays beautifully, but Geri Allen brings something extra to the table.

This music is a helluva lot more interesting than my life is right now.

My daughter often joins in clapping after songs when listening to live albums.  I don't know how well known Hedges is, but clarinet fans should check him out.

And again.  I hadn't used the queue function in Google Play before and it apparently had this on repeat.  I saw no reason not to give it another spin.

If I was going to do just one Palmieri forever (not that that's a palatable option, it's not), this would probably be it.

Probably.

I seem to recall several people here not liking this album, but I always have.

Is that a 335 on the cover? It looks like that, though the trussrodcover is somewhat strange. That's where the image is a bit blurred.

Bluesnik, you got me on that one. I don't know guitars.

But whatever Rogers is playing, the music sounds good. :D

Billy Harper as blowtorch bearer ....

I fixed that for you. :D  I caught him with The Cookers earlier this year and the opening song featured a Harper solo that was 15-20 minutes of fire.  It was great, one of those moments where part of me was in disbelief at what I was witnessing.

Fascinating music.

I heard two live sets of Alfredo Rodriguez/ Pedrito Martinez (augmented on some songs by two additional Cuban percussionists) earlier this year; that was some white hot music.
