2025 MLB Season Starting NOW!!!
Dan Gould replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Torn ACL for the rookie Dobbins who showed some pretty decent stuff and poise this year. Need for starting help and relievers is getting extreme. Especially with Tanner Houk suffering from suckitis after his supposed breakthru campaign, and at the end of his allowed rehab stint, and Slaten not even throwing yet after his supposed dead arm situation at the end of May. -

This is where it gets interesting. Like was Black Lion a reissue lable only or signing artists too? Where does Freedom fit in? The more advant garde wing of Black Lion? Was Julius Hemphill, Andrew Hill, Archie Shepp, Freedom lable staples? Like Brilliant Corners, I've seen Polydor, Black Lion and Freedom forms of this record with all kinds of weird-ass cover art. What label did Stanely Cowell sign with, and do I have the original sleeve art as close as it can be? Here's the one I own: About Alan Bates, did he "found" Black Lion in 1968 as a forward releasing label, or was it a reissue program? For example I have these Black Lion CDs: Which is a Fontana issue, or Which is a Polydor release. Confused!

Last price reduction. Offered for sale is a nice copy of the following Mosaic Stanley Turrentine box set: The Blue Note Stanley Turrentine Quintet/Sextet Studio Sessions 5 CD, Mosaic, 2002 Limited Edition of 5000 numbered copies (this is copy # 3065). So was Marion Brown, John McLaughlin, Stanley Cowell, signed to Polydor? When did Freedom and Black Lion come in the picture? Did they split the catalogue or is Freedom really a Black Lion imprint, or the other way around?
-
RIP Certainly one of the most magnanimous people to grace our presence here.

I like the mid-60's BN Blue Mitchell period very much. Fun stuff. lols. 1870s was far funnier. Can't forget something I've never seen. What a lineup!
-
Oops, 1970s...

1879s, lols, that's some funny stuff! Good stuff. I bought Breakthrough right out of Dusty Groove, the last time (not this time) I was in Chicago a few years back. Glad I did, I believe it's a Dusty Grooove edition (it's packed in a box).
