The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 The recent discussion of the sleeve and title of the forthcoming Organissimo CD has made me think about this one. (And you all know what it looks like, so I'm going to show you again ) I think this is actually a classic album cover. There's a story behind this, I'm sure, and I'd love to hear it, if it's printable. There are lots of great album sleeves around, but relatively few seem to encapsulate a story. I can only think of one other, offhand, so I thought I'd see what story ideas sleeves generate in other members. MG Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 15, 2008 Author Report Posted June 15, 2008 My other story selection is George benson's "Giblet gravy" You can let your imagination run wild with this. But I think George isn't with the girl; he just happens to be sitting beside her at the counter. And he's obviously NOT interested in giblet gravy! (Who can blame him?) MG Quote
mikeweil Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 A caption for the Org cover might go: "I knew right away that f......ng record company agent wouldn't show up - now we have to to the whole damn production ourselves!! Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 15, 2008 Author Report Posted June 15, 2008 Looks like a triple date to me - which is why I said "if it's printable" MG Quote
Joe G Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 The "Boogaloo Sisters" were not actually sisters but two close friends, beautiful young women (Uncle Skid has met one at least and can attest to her charms), and among the first to hit the dance floor when we started gigging out as a trio. Needless to say their arrival at the club never failed to liven up the scene. On slow nights, the inevitable question would be asked concerning their whereabouts. Of course we had a job to do and never actually sat at the bar, refusing to play until they showed, but it made for a good album cover scenario. Those days are gone now, as one of them moved on several years ago, and the other is busy with school and career, plus Founders Brewery moved out of the room where the photo was taken and into a bigger venue (better in some ways, but not as intimate). But it was a formative period for us, and those gigs played a huge role in the shaping of our sound, which of course still leans toward the funky side of jazz. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 16, 2008 Author Report Posted June 16, 2008 Thanks Joe - I didn't view the sleeve as you refusing to play until they got there. I thought the idea was you'd all been stood up But the truth is best. MG Quote
Parkertown Posted June 17, 2008 Report Posted June 17, 2008 Thanks for the back story, Joe! George B. is definitely on the make...what an attractive young lady. Quote
