ghost of miles Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Evidently this one came out in late 2003 and just got re-issued on a different label... I stumbled across it b/c of its Elliott Smith cover. And yeah, she's Charlie's daughter... and it's the first thing I've heard from Frisell that I've liked in years, outside of his work on the last Dave Douglas. Great mix of songs, and man, what a great voice she has, too. Here's the track list: 1 Satellite 2:37 Composed by: Smith Performed by: Haden, Bill Frisell 2 Floaty 6:55 Composed by: Grohl Performed by: Haden, Bill Frisell 3 Bai-La Taigam 5:22 Composed by: Traditional Performed by: Haden, Bill Frisell 4 Moon River 2:22 Composed by: Mancini, Mercer Performed by: Haden, Bill Frisell 5 Yellow 4:39 Composed by: Berryman, Buckland, Champion, Martin Performed by: Haden, Bill Frisell 6 I Don't Want to Grow Up its 3:37 Composed by: Brennan, Waits Performed by: Haden, Bill Frisell 7 The Quiet Room 4:21 Composed by: Haden Performed by: Haden, Bill Frisell 8 When You Wish Upon a Star 2:34 Composed by: Harline, Washington Performed by: Haden, Bill Frisell 9 I Believe 6:17 Composed by: Wonder Performed by: Haden, Bill Frisell 10 John Hardy Was a Desperate Little Man 2:40 Composed by: Traditional Performed by: Haden, Bill Frisell 11 I've Got a Crush on You 3:46 Composed by: Gershwin, Gershwin Performed by: Haden, Bill Frisell 12 Throughout 4:02 Composed by: Frisell Performed by: Haden, Bill Frisell More pop than jazz, though I'm getting much less interested in such musical distinctions... just a very pleasing record to listen to. BFrank Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 I've got it in my "Save for Later" list on eMusic. Glad to hear that it's good. Quote
Bright Moments Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 this one is a keeper! note to lon - she is a brunette! Quote
Alexander Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 I picked this up a while back. It's teriffic disc. Very worth picking up. Another fun disc of Petra's is her all vocal version of "The Who Sell Out." It's not jazz, but it's cool! Quote
medjuck Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 I was a little disappointed in the record but I'll give it another listen. Saw her singing with The Foo Fighters and she was pretty great. Quote
Matthew Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 I was a little disappointed in the record but I'll give it another listen. Saw her singing with The Foo Fighters and she was pretty great. Haden did great work with that dog, which was the hip band is L.A. during the mid-90s, thought Totally Crushed Out! was a great record.
