Didn't notice any ears...) and reorganized my CDs, completely alphabetically, with no regard to genre. I found that I really wasn't listening to the rock stuff at all, because I never made it over to that shelf, so I thought I'd give this a shot. But the placement of certain acts seems rather odd. Such as: Organissimo is now next to the Offspring. We've got Roland Kirk next to a Carole King disc. Ella is now surrounded by the Firesign Theater and Flatt & Scruggs. Run, Ella!! The answer to "Who's Next" appears to be Baby Face Willette... Milt and Joe Jackson are having a strange "family reunion". But we've got two djs in the family so there's a lot of hither and thither. A crapshoot finding anything in particular. Just my wife and me, but there's so much music that I own that she has NO interest in (85% to 90% of the jazz, 60% of the classical (all my crazy 20th Century stuff, especially serial composers, and their ilk) ---- that I don't think I'd ever hear the end of it if I tried to mix EVERYTHING all together, A to Z, without any division by type of music. In fact, I've already taken to pulling out the 10% to 15% of the jazz that my wife will listen to, and keeping it in it's very own section. Yeah, that means that Herbie's "Speak Like A Child" is in "the wife's jazz" section, and not with the rest of my Herbie --- BUT, having a system like this makes it 100 times easier to find jazz that I can put on that my wife will listen to too (without raising a fuss). She really likes jazz piano trios, and some sessions with horns - but "not with all that wild screeching, and 27-notes-per-second soloing" on it. She really likes Brad Mehldau, and I've got her sorta liking some of Andrew Hill's solo piano albums, and even a few Jason Moran albums. I've even thought a time or two about trying to split up all the classical (about 1,500 to 2,000 CD's) into music that we both like in one section (meaning more conservative styles, late Romantic-era music mostly), and keep all the stuff that only I like in a different section. Furthermore, any old commercial-type R&B and soul I have is located on her shelves rather than mine. (I get to keep my T-Bone Walker and Parliament with no arugment, but the Jackie Wilson and O'Jays have been kidnapped!) This is just the stuff that only I listen to... I'm glad he got me going on the project. There were certain RVGs I owned but hadn't seen/couldn't find for months (a la 'Green Street'). It's interesting that, from what I see in this picture, I don't appear to have many CD titles in my possession. However, this picture includes all but a couple of the available RVGs, with several other jazz titles included in the mix. My Mosaics are in their Mosaic boxes located in my closet. I have many other CDs besides these, some stacked on the floor, some in the other closet, some in my car. But, the CDs in this picture are the CDs I play the most. Scan your photo into your computer. Shrink the picture to 100KB (or less) using a picture-viewing program. 'Reply' to this thread in the usual manner... at the bottom of the Reply screen there is a 'Browse' button. Use the 'Browse' button to tell the Board software where to locate your scanned image from your computer. Finally, add your post to the Board the way you would normally do, by pressing the 'Add Reply' button. The picture will be uploaded along with your text. Or, to stack the Mosaic boxes in a horizontal fashion, on their ends? If the storage space permits, the boxes take up less useable space in a room or closet by stacking them vertically. I wonder what the risk of damage is to the boxes at the bottom of the stack? I wonder how they stack the boxes at the Mosaic warehouse, and how many they place in a single stack? If I pull the bottom disk out really quick, all the disks above it drop down by the width of a single disk and no damage is done. Errr... maybe. Truthfully, there aren't any jazz disks near the bottom of my in-the-corner stacks. All the disks I play are near the top. Whew! The bottom row contains such notable items as a George Strait, a Yanni, a Sampler of 1980s dance music, and a collection of Christmas tunes played on an organ in some large Eurpean church (and it ain't no Jimmy Smith a-playin' that organ). Bright Moments Posted March 14, 2004 Report Share Posted March 14, 2004 i just ordered 2 more 3-drawer cd cabinets from caselogic. each drawer holds about 75 cd's (after first "decanting" them and putting them into "cd sleeves"). that will make 36 drawers for me. i organize my cd's first by catagory i.e.jazz, classical, rock, vocalists, ska, reggae, big band, misc etc.; and than alphabetically within each catagory.
