  1. Had the pleasure of having dinner with Roy Haynes along with Dexter Gordon, Red Rodney and Ira Gitler after one of Joe Segal's "Charlie Parker Month" celebrations. It was August 23, 1970. Ira kept joking that Roy's name had been "typo-ed" in the NY Times - he kept addressing him as Hag-nes. Some material was issued on this -

  3. I enjoyed those records so much I broke down and bought the 7 cd set in February - though I haven't made it through them all yet
  4. This arrived early evening, so it is ready for the morning. Interesting to compare it to the vinyl set from 50 years back.

  6. Lou was a sweetheart! Back in 1981 when I was chairman of the Chicago Jazz Festival, I put together a Jimmy Smith Jam and Lou was part of the band. Over rehearsals, sound check and performance I had occasion to introduce Lou to my 2 children at different times. When Lou met my second child, he chuckled and said "I feel much better now - this one is yours for sure".

  8. The new Charles Ives box prompted me to listen to this set and order the new cd version of an lp box I've had for 50 years It should be delivered tomorrow.
