  1. The problem with waller recordings is that there almost aren't any "one session cd's" of the man. Most of what came out, is either a compilation or some sort of a "chronological" cd. If I were you I would start with "The Last Years (1940-1943)" by Bluebird - This is in my opinion a wonderful set and since it contains his latest work, the sound is as good as it gets...
  2. Beautiful pictures Barak, Happy Pesach to all
  3. Rip NHOP This is really shocking, I have been a fan of his for a very long time.
  4. I don't get the Bauer trick, I tried rewinding, but I get nothing new (except the begining of track 1).
  5. I've got them all
  6. I'm wondering if Che can read this forum while being banned, If so he must be proud of himself - He caused such a big havoc without even participating!!! As for myself, I had disagreed with him about some things (Israel Zionism, Middle Eastern history etc...), but I also found some things that we could talk about and even a couple we had in common. If I understand correctly that he asked to be banned, it is (in my opinion) stupid but it is also regrettable. What did irritate me the most about him was the Smiling picture of Che. THAT I DON'T miss!!!
  7. Or maybe "Blue in Green" BTW Congratulations on your birthday
  8. I actually have two recordings by this group. The Emarcy Berlin concert you saw and a double LP from London. If I were you I would run back to the store and buy that CD - IT IS WONDERFUL!!! By the way, a guy I know who saw this group in Israel (I was two years old and in Norway at the time) said that Art Blakey was so stoned and enjoyed himself so much that he didn't want to finish the concert, just kept playing on and on.
  9. I've been to Helsinki in 1984, I still remember how difficult it was for my parents (and for myself) to communicate. Finnish is an impossible language, I was told it sounds a little like Hungarian which I believe is another impossible language. The second language in Finland is Swedish - every place has 2 names one in Finnish & one in Swedish which adds to the confusion (try going to the central train station and getting to the correct destination). Another problem is that the Finns refuse to speak Swedish because of some historical misunderstandings they had with the Swedes. Even international words like restaurant (ravintola) are impossible. Still if you must learn Finnish, I would sudgest that you move to Finland for a year, since it is very difficult to manage in English you must pick up the language by the time you leave for home...
  10. Both my Grandmothers died very old but with Altsheimer, or in other words - With no brain (or with Swiss cheese instead of brains). I once thought I wanted to live to be as old as possible, but after seeing my Grandmothers, I would rather die a year before my brain dies.
  11. This seems to be the exact thing I'm looking for. Can you give me the exact details of the Library of Congress CD's/LP's which include the interviews with JRM - I understand that in most issues of the LoC material, the interviews were not included...
  12. Nothing to explain!!! I love Dave Brubeck!!!
  13. That is not a simple question!!!
  14. I don't have a lot of Tjader's recordings but I do like what I've heard. I got to know him through Ted Gioia's book on West Coast Jazz. Will put on something by him on May 5th.
  15. If the RCA's are OOP I guess you can find the music on the Classics label - I also have all the Bluebirds
  16. This is the Bluebird I was referring to. What a great compilation!!!
  17. It's hard to find a starting point for Fats, since he died in 1943, there weren't any LP's by him. I would start on the Bluebird recordings - the last set of these recordings is sublime. His piano solos are also great. I prefer his piano playing to his organ playing but Cound Basie once said he would have cut his right arm to be able to use his legs on the organ on the same level as Fats. In other words, in my opinion you can't go wrong with Waller
  18. I have a very large Chet Baker collection, but "neglected" to buy this set because all the music on this set can be found elsewhere. The music is GREAT though... and if the price is right...
  19. I saw him in Israel last june, with Joshua Redman & Bred Mehlldau. I must admit that his sidemen were much better than him...
  20. Thanks for the info, although this seems to be a "processed product" not the originals. I think I read somewere that there were eight volumes issued some 11 years ago, which included some interviews.
  21. Does anyone know if these are still available? I am in the process of discovering Morton's music, and would love to hear the Library of Congress/Lomax tecordings
  22. I saw him some 9 months ago in Tel Aviv. This cat is on fire...
  23. "I see already four people say they are posting from Asia. I am in Tokyo, who are the other three? " I'm From Israel - Asia
  24. Che, Norway for me is the most beautiful country in the world, if you are visiting during summer, make sure you have some spare time for traveling!!!
  25. The last concert of the Tel Aviv Jazz Festival was by the Roy Campbel Pyramid Trio. In the past my definitions for jazz did not to include Free Jazz and Fusion, (I got into Fusion through Miles' work), but in the past couple of years my definitions have been changing. The concert the Pyramid Trio gave on Saturday was very impressive in all aspects (both visually and audioably). On top of that I was very impressed by the reasons that causes Campbell to create: He seems like a guy who has strong opinions about things and he puts his views into his music.
