  1. hey - that works - but can I search on it for posts by other members?
  2. I'll stay outta this one -
  3. well, that film the Green Berets was pretty terrible - wait, no that's the other Duke -
  4. I go to search - by user name - allenlowe - looking for posts - and it's very arbitrary. It often skips many posts I've done -
  5. I've been kicked off two other forums - this is the last one that'll have me -
  6. well, as I've said before, I won't post with any group that would have me as a member -

ben there, done that - after all, it's only underwear -
  8. don't know if this has already been addressed, but since the format change the search function, for me, is a problem - I often try to locate my own posts to see if there's been a response - and the search fnction misses and/or skips many. Is this just me?
  9. glad somebody mentioned Jaki Byard - but you gotta get the Prestige LPS, which have not been reissued on CD - they are the absolute height of solo piano. The best of the last 50 years.
  10. well, he's no Oscar Peterson... thank goodness. Brilliant pianist, if prone to glibness. I like his later albums much better, when he settled in.
  11. just to note, like a lot of people I've not always been a big fan of revivalist music - the sessions Chris produced (and I have nearly all) represent the music in an utterly unselfconscious state, meaning that the musuicians play great, play it as the music they know and love, not as museum pieces or for tourist traps. It is VERY deep stuff. Chris, I hadn't realized you did all those sessions - all I can say is thanks!

the pope smokes dope - I know this to be true -
  13. Fred is dead -
  14. ok - I'll send him several clicks and pops lifted from the Stash version - as well as all high frequencies retrieved from the left-over Storyville takes -

and just for an udpate - this is not Richard Reich, or Sam Reich - it's Howard Reich - otherwise known as the Third Reich -

guys, don't you remember? Reich is an idiot. He writes from the bizarro world - whatever he writes, just assume the oppposite is true -
  17. wait...now I gotta think - oh crap, it's sold! just kidding - the sale will go on - their are nice liners on the Storyville, but if you listen to the Stash, it has a bit more "presence" - but the Storyville is fine. I don't really have the energy for it, but I might try an A/B with the Stash/Storyville, first using my Cedar on the Stash - might be interesting - might not...
  18. 12:57 - daddy needs a new pair of shoes - momma need an operation -
  19. I didn't even know he was sick -
  20. Hank Jone solo on Savoy - Professor Longhair on Atlantic - Fess Manetta, ca. 1957 - Jelly Roll on Commodore (reissue) - Pete Gray Plays the Treble Clef -
  21. hey it's 12:16 and this thing ain't sold yet - I thought you guys loved it - no annoying tics and pops, less annoying high frequencies - come on guys, put your money where your ears are -
  22. maybe mention his best album - solo on Savoy -
  23. Just bought this - if you read my previous post on that other thread you know it's good, but not as good sounding as my original Stash CD - so am selling. Just opened it yesterday, played it once. $35 shipped. Email me at: alowe@maine.rr.com. Paypal or money order or check (my paypal address is ammusic@maine.rr.com) - I'll be out of the house until this afternoon, so will check emails when I get home. If there's a bunch, first received will get the set - thanks!

    Jelly Roll?

and to add to my previous statement about Reich - well, you can probably find some truth in a Donald Rumsfeld speech, but it doesn't mean you should take it seriously. Let's not give Reich any of our money - stick to the Lomax book and Phil Pastras's book or get the Library of Congress recordings and you'll have a better picture of Jelly Roll than a book as messy as Reich's - also the Bill Russell scrapbook -

    Jelly Roll?

well, let's remember - Larry has published in many places, just not in book form - so the problem is ours and not his. At any rate, his book on the Original Creole Band is out on Oxford University Press -
