  2. I have Vols 3 and 5 and Zounds. Members with scruples about piracy won't be pleased to hear I also have a 20-track Giants of Jazz CD called Lennie Niehaus Quintet & Octet + Stan Kenton and his Orchestra. At £5 in 1997 (= v. cheap), I couldn't resist!
  3. Yes, wise words! People who speak Italian as a second language are virtually non-existent, compared with the position of English. I spent three years learning Italian, but rapidly forgot it , as I never came across it here. An Italian who learned English would have an entirely different experience, even though remaining in his own country.

  10. I saw him in concert at St George's Hall, Bradford in 1957 with Jack Teagarden, Max Kaminsky, Peanuts Hucko, Cozy Cole and Jack Lesberg. All I now remember over the passage of time is Hines's clowning; he played a run that went higher and higher until he hit the wood of the piano and writhed with fake pain!

  17. well i didn't say "am i blue" is a better record than "blue train"... i just said to me blue train doesn't quite live up to what you read about it, haven't played it in a while though... concerning idle moments, i do hear a certain "laid-back perfection" in it which i guess is related to what people rave about, i like it but i reach for am i blue more often (my favorite grant green blue note is feelin' the spirit btw) But without Blue Trane we wouldn't have had jazz for BARACK OBAMA.

  25. i have the explanation of this title, but infortunately only in french : Dans la session de 1954, un petit joyau : "Marcel The Furrier " avec un magnifique solo d'Al Cohn, précédé de celui de Tal Farlow qui est excellent. Ce titre a été écrit en hommage à Marcel Fleiss, un photographe français passionné de jazz. Un autre titre (" Burt's Pad ") est dédié à un autre photographe (Burt Goldblatt). this title was written for a french photograph named marcel Fleiss ( maybe fleiss means "furrier" in deutch ? ) an other title, " burt's Pad" is dedicated to a photograph: burt goldblatt. sorry for my english. Merci de votre explication, Gaston. de rien c'est tout naturel... I am "marcel le fourreur" because before beeing an art galerist I was working with furs and my friend Henri Renaud wr oe this tune for me. You can see my Jazz photos on Jazz;Com Bienvenue a organissimo, Marcel!
