... and they're playing him with the Messengers, which is how I particularly remember him, along with his Jazz Lab work with Gigi Gryce.

  8. It's an excellent album IMHO.

  10. Two big band Nelson albums which have long been favorites:
  11. Bought used c.1960 for 22/6 according to the sticker. Very heavy vinyl - still plays beautifully.
  12. Not sure if it's disqualified as a suite, but Ellington's "Black, Brown and Beige" is a great piece of music and a seminal influence. How many versions of "Come Sunday" have you heard? I have had it for many years on this vinyl album:
  13. Not sure if George Russell's "All About Rosie" played by the Mulligan Concert Jazz Band comes quite up to the 15 min mark (no track lengths given on my old vinyl copy), but it's certainly one of my favorite long jazz tracks.
  14. Yes, vividly told in this biography which I found in the Music Department of Manchester Central Library. http://www.langtoninfo.co.uk/showitem.aspx?isbn=0195115740&loc=GBP

  17. Thanks for the heads-up on this release, Bill, I must have missed it when it came out. I presume the two albums included on it are needle-drops, so what does it "sound" like? To me it sounds beautiful, but then I'm no expert on matters technical. Thanks Bill, I've ordered a copy. Enjoy!

  22. Jim Rotondi/Eric Alexander organ quartet at Southport last night. Superb! Here's their album, on sale during the tour and on general release in April:
