  1. Last night I saw Greg Abate with the Vinnie Parker Trio at Wilmslow, Cheshire. Everyone was steamin' in the first set, but things fell off in the second when Greg introduced numbers that the local trio didn't know. But Dameron's "If I Could See You Now" was taken at slow enough tempo for Greg to be able to call out the changes as he led them through the middle eight! Not that the trio weren't quite impressive. As their feature they chose Bill Evans' "Very Early", with bass and drums performing in a convincing Evans trio manner. At times like this, Greg retreated to a balcony outside the club where he smoked a large cigar!

  9. Haven't heard any Spanier after the classic 1939 tracks, but I saw Hucko the year after your disc in a touring show jointly led by Jack Teagarden and Earl Hines and also including Cozy Cole, Jack Lesberg and Max Kaminsky. Looks like they were recorded when they got to Paris: http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/6774442/a/At+The+Olympia+Theatre,+Paris,+France+-+Nov.+6,+1957.htm

  16. Track 5 A bit of research suggests this from an album called Double Exposure, which comprises two live audience sessions, one by Stan Getz and one by Zoot Sims. Here we're hearing Zoot and Bucky Pizzarelli; Buddy Rich and Milt Hinton are also on the session, but are clearly silent here In time I guess we'll see the album cover which features the most unflattering artist's impression of Zoot I've ever seen (Of course, all this could be completely wrong )
