When Basie Plays Hefti was first released, it was generally seen as a disappointment after The Atomic Mr Basie. However, as I don't recall ever hearing it, I shouldn't be commenting!
Am pleased that I saw Joe Williams sing with Basie. I also saw his Basie predecessor Jimmy Rushing sing with Humphrey Lyttelton. As I also saw Joe Turner and Jimmy Witherspoon, I think I did quite well for male blues singers!
I already have Atomic Mr Basie, Chairman of the Board, Basie at Birdland and Kansas City Suite. Are there any other Roulettes I should know about, or do I have the best ones already?
I also have On My Way and Shoutin' Again on order. I'm very happy to have a couple of the John Graas albums and Artistry of Hubbard already in my collection.
