  1. I always use USPS (= the "U.S. Airmail" option on the Mosaic site, not UPS) nowadays and I've never had a problem with them. I have used UPS in the past: never again.
  2. Where have you been? There's lots of talk about this sale in this thread.
  3. Canadian $$, I take it
  4. I don't agree. A 2009 remaster can sound a lot worse than one from 1987; as fellow member Claude would say, it all depends on the mastering, and he's right.
  5. Uh...there is no post-Abbey Road, unless you count the "fixing" session for Let It Be... OK, I should have said that up to and including The Beatles (aka The White Album) the albums and non-album tracks were recorded in both mono and stereo. After that set everything was recorded in stereo only. To clarify, here's a list of what's included in the mono box: Please, Please Me With the Beatles A Hard Day's Night Beatles for Sale Help! (CD also includes original 1965 stereo mix) Rubber Soul (CD also includes original 1965 stereo mix) Revolver Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Magical Mystery Tour The Beatles (aka The White Album) Mono Masters (features all of the mono tracks that appeared on singles and EPs or that never made it onto the albums)
  6. As mentioned several times, the mono box set does not include any albums/singles originally released in stereo. Therefore the stereo box set would have more tracks, as it includes all of the albums. The pre-Abbey Road albums and non-album tracks were recorded in both mono and stereo; from Abbey Road everything was recorded in stereo only.
  7. In the US anyway, Universal distributes Concord, they are part of the same corporate family. But that doesn't mean they have the same release policy
  8. That didn't quite work, you'd never get rid of the manipulation of the low and high frequencies that was applied to create the fake stereo. Using the mono button for fake stereo albums always produced a kind of out-of-phase sound on my various 1960s systems; I don't know how exactly to describe it, but it didn't sound right and certainly not better than the awful "electronically rechanneled stereo" sound.
  9. Got the CD a couple of days ago and just listened to it again - hadn't heard the album in years and forgot how good it is. I don't even mind the (pretty subdued) tuba, an instrument I really hate
  10. Except that the Prestige boxes are released by Concord and the Impulse! boxes by Universal.
  11. The threads you are referring to were not about sale lists, they listed upcoming Japanese releases and reissues, that's why they were posted in the "Reissues" forum. This thread is about his stocklist with many older and OOP CDs, that's why I posted it in the "Offering and Looking For" forum.
  12. That's Hiroshi's LP stocklist. I understand selling LPs is an important part of his business. You're welcome.
  13. Why is the number of CDs relevant? It's a stocklist of CDs Hiroshi is selling, not a list of his preferences. I don't have a smiley for resigned head-shaking. It's not a reflection on Hiroshi, but in a way, a reflection on the market: lots of demand for Miles, so little for Duke (and many others). All things considered, for me, I'd rather have the complete Ellington than the complete Miles, which seems to nearly be available on this list. People do get twitchy around here, don't they? I guess Hiroshi's stocklist reflects what's popular in Japan, at least with jazz fans. And yes, I do get twitchy around here sometimes - I posted a heads up and one of the few reactions is a cranky comment on the CDs that are on the list. It's been the nature of this board the last few years...
  14. Hard to tell without a smiley
  15. 1000 yen = about $10.75 / €7.53 / £6.64 at today's exchange rates. PayPal's rates may differ a bit. exchange rates As for Hiroshi's shipping rates, you'd better ask him (today's his day off ). They're much lower than what Amazon Japan and HMV Japan charge.

  17. Hiroshi Tanno has added several OOP jazz CDs to his CD stocklist, some of them quite rare, and I understand he will be adding several more in the coming weeks. All prices are in Japanese yen. Hiroshi takes PayPal and he can be reached via e-mail. His customer service is excellent and his shipping rates are very reasonable. Tuesday is his weekly day off
  18. Don't forget his 1956 trio recordings for Atlantic, with Teddy Kotick and Nick Stabulas, released in 1957 on Knight Music. This album was reissued on CD by Koch.
  19. Goes to show that the situation within the (international) jazz community is not much better than elsewhere
  20. Talking about the Jazz Messengers, how many people outside the jazz world do you think know Art Blakey? And some who have heard of him even think his name is "Blakeley"... And how many people do you think have jazz albums anyway, apart from the ones they think are jazz (Kenny G and Herb Alpert come to mind...)? (edited to correct a grammatical error )
  21. Why don't you contact Linda Goode. She's Oldies.com's Customer Service Manager; she recently corrected an overcharge on my card.
  22. Totally off-topic, but I wish Sony would redo Duke Ellington at Newport'56 (Complete) in their Legacy Edition 2CD-series, with all Phil Schaap artefacts removed and mastered by Mark Wilder
  23. Wasn't Jayson Blair's case remarkably similar to what Stephen Glass did when he was with The New Republic in the 1990s? The name Janet Cooke (The Washington Post) also comes to mind
  24. Not from me, I haven't been in touch with Mosaic lately.
