Was Miles Davis' Complete On the Corner Sessions set only issued in the later longbox format or was it ever released as a CD-sized box and if so, did it have a metal spine?

They charged me for the Stitt set yesterday. Maybe they will deliver this time...

Wasn't that on Warner Brothers? Yep, Amandla was a Warner Bros. album, so it's not included in the Sony set.

Maybe they finally got some stock - anyway, I've re-ordered it; wait and see...

Only two of those (South Side Soul and Mr Soul) have been reissued on (now OOP) Original Jazz Classics CDs. As kh1958 noted in post #2, they're available from sellers on Amazon.

I was wondering about that too. I haven't read the whole thread, but all I've recently seen were posts about the Stitt set being unavailable.

Just in case you're thinking about getting the Burrell somewhere else, it doesn't have the extra tracks that are on the individual Original Jazz Classics CD reissues.

Actually I'm encouraged by this. I've hoped they'd go back to some of the late Fantasy ideas on intelligent assembling of reissue material as opposed to just the straight reissues. This is a much more cost-effective and cohesive presentation of the material than the splintered "originals". Yeah, but I think it depends. I would love to see more box sets like the late Fantasys, but not like this. It overblows the Miles/Sonny "partnership" into something that it's not and rehashes well-worn material that is best served by the "originals". What I would like to see is something like a complete Dolphy Five Spot set, a Jaki Byard or Booker Ervin or Teddy Charles or Shelly Manne set. This suggests to me that they're only interested in rehashing the "hits" as opposed to digging deeper into the catalogue to collate worthy material intelligently. But maybe you're right, maybe it's a good sign. Anything is better than more Essentials. I second the suggestions above, especially the Dolphy Five Spot and Booker Ervin sets. A set with the Red Garland quintet sessions that produced the individual albums All Mornin' Long, Dig It!, High Pressure and Soul Junction would also be nice.

My "hope" turned out to be short lived. I got a cancellation notice, and an assurance that my credit card charge would be refunded. That confirms my impression that they don't know what they're doing at Oldies.com. They charged me twice for something else last week and refunded the overcharge after I had complained. They're making a mess of things

I ordered 1 copy of the Stitt set on 8 July, and just got an email saying they weren't able to fulfill my order and were cancelling it today. Curious they can fulfill your order of 4 copies so quickly. edit - Spoke with 2-3 people from Oldies since this post on the phone, and one guy told me that my order was already going out today, despite the cancellation email. I guess I'll believe it when I see it. I also ordered a copy of the Stitt set on July 8 and got a cancellation e-mail yesterday. Today Oldies.com's customer service manager told me they had cancelled my order because they couldn't fill it. They have their priorities mixed up; cancelling earlier orders while filling a later one for the same set isn't my idea of fair play

Oh boy. And George Russell around the same time, Bill Finegan (my friend who I sorely miss) last year. I guess even the greatest of shows have to have final curtains...... No, not around the same time - Billy May died on January 22, 2004. As was mentioned in post #9, this thread is 5 years old.

Please set me wise, Bev (I did not look up that latter topic right now so I am really starting from "scratch"): Those latter two names do NOT ring a bell with me at all. Imagine me as being somebody very interested not only in U.S. but also European jazz but (as far as collecting in strictly "collector" sense of the word goes) with a major emphasis on the jazz styles, periods and musicians of the early 30s to the early 60s. What would I have missed under these aspects and what glaring non-knowledge would I have to admit to within my key period of historical interest if I did not know these names? I'll be glad to learn and add to my knowledge but could it be that those just were bound to be off my radar, given my key areas of interest? OTOH, whoever (even if not pop-minded at all) could have AVOIDED having heard about Michael Jackson on NUMEROUS occasions throughout the past 30+ years? So this explains that ... I understand that the remasters from the early 2000s were used, the ones that were done for the TOCJ-6XXX series that came out in those years. They were called "TOCJ24s" on this forum. (edit) Just found this post on the Hoffman forum. This gentleman from Japan wasn't very pleased when he learned whose masterings were used.

Since you're asking, I think you'd have a better chance on eBay with these prices.
