  1. Does this mean they'll send new discs to those who've already received their copy, or that they're holding up on shipping until correct discs are inserted into waiting boxes? It would seem that they've shipped 900 so far? It could be pricey re-sending that many individual discs. All I know is that they're holding my set until they get the replacement discs.
  2. Mosaic's Scott Wenzel just told me they fixed the error and they'll get replacement discs in approximately two weeks.
  3. These might be the Songbook sessions that were recorded in the late 1950s. The Mosaic only covered most of the 1951-1953 dates.
  4. The "Blue Note Works" series has been reissued a few times in the 1990s and the reissues all used the same TOCJ-15XX, TOCJ-16XX and TOCJ-4XXX catalogue numbers, which leads me to believe that these are not "BN Works" reissues. I wouldn't be surprised if those TOCJ-85XX releases are reissues of the cheap "TOCJ24" Blue Notes with catalogue numbers TOCJ-6XXX that were released in the early 2000s. I picked up several of those, but decided to ditch them after a few listening sessions because I didn't like the sound.
  5. It means that they've sold at least 700-something! Good news, indeed. Perhaps the cash flow that this set generates will allow Mosaic to restock some of the sets they currently have on back-order. ...and fund some of the sets they're planning
  6. According to a documentary about Audrey Hepburn that I recently watched on German TV her vocal is not in the movie, a stand-in was used because the director, Blake Edwards, didn't think her singing voice was good enough.
  7. I always thought it was "Bird." Yep.
  8. As a fan of classic R&B and early Soul I knew that Soft Cell's version was a cover of Gloria Jones' original. The song was written by Four Preps member Ed Cobb
  9. Um... Not quite, Jim wasn't the one who cheated me out of a CD, that was German member "tjobbe", who never showed his face here again. Jim re-appeared about a year ago and promised to make good on what he owed, here. He then disappeared again a week or so later. Apparently he didn't keep his promise...
  10. I thought he meant Ehud Barak It'd be nice if at least people's names would be spelled correctly.
  11. Kenny Dorham Quartet with Ernie Henry on the Two Horns, Two Rhythm album (Riverside).
  12. Sonny Rollins Quartet with Jim Hall (1962) Art Farmer Quartet with Jim Hall (1962-1964) Max Roach made several pianoless quartet recordings for EmArcy/Mercury in the late 1950s
  13. Correct. As I posted above Dedication! doesn't have any alternates, though; it has "only" 7 tracks.
  14. Yep. It was also reissued as: Freddie Hubbard - Minor Mishap - Black Lion (with alternate takes) and Duke Pearson - Dedication! - Prestige (no alternates)
  15. No, that one went extremely fast once it was on the "Running Low / Last Chance" list, but I think that had something to do with the lease running out.
  16. Almost three months on and these three sets are still on the "Running Low / Last Chance" list. Sales must really be very low.
  17. Already posted here, on February 10.
  18. You're not being imprecise. There's only one Angel Eyes, the tune that was recorded on January 12, 1962, and you were right to emphasize that in order to avoid any misunderstandings.
  19. The track 'Angel Eyes' was recorded on January 12, 1962 during the session for Hush (and also released on the Jazzline album Hush), all other titles are from a session on August 1, 1961. Yep, I posted the details of the January 12, 1962 date in post #10
  20. Yep, the second one was a trio/quaret/quintet date, recorded in NYC on January 12, 1962. It was released as Hush! Personnel: Donald Byrd - trumpet Johnny Coles - trumpet Duke Pearson - piano Bob Cranshaw - bass Walter Perkins - drums Tunes: Hush! Child's Play Angel Eyes (trio) Smoothie Sudel Friday's Child (Byrd out) Out of This World (trio) This track was only issued on a European Polydor LP (423224) and was included on the CD reissue: Groovin' for Nat The CD reissue added alternate takes of these tracks: Hush! Child's Play Sudel
  21. As stated above the recordings were done for JazzLine, but they were never issued on that label. The European Polydor LP was the first release, so I guess the cover shown above was the one used by Polydor. The JazzLine label only existed from 1961 to around 1963.
  22. I also left the board in December 2007, along with Couw and a few others, and my account was deleted. Later I got a new account - hence the high number - and Jim managed to attach most of my old posts to the new account, that's why I have a 7,000+ post count
  23. Couw left the board in December 2007.
  24. All I could find is a European Polydor LP Angel Eyes (583 723) that was recorded in NYC on August 1, 1961. Some discographies also mention a January 12, 1962 date. Personnel: Duke Pearson - piano Thomas Howard - bass Lex Humphries - drums Tunes (not necessarily in this order): Angel Eyes I'm an Old Cowhand Bags' Groove Say You're Mine Jeannine Le Carrousel Blues Exodus (edit) The Black Lion CD reissue omits Angel Eyes and adds three alternate takes.
