  4. I think this was only sold through Texaco, but at a budget price, hence the album is easy to find. I do believe that this is the only LP where you can get the title track, although it was also issued on a regular Columbia 45.

  7. There is a Fresh Sounds release that gathers all the material from this marathon session on 2 CD's. It came out in 1991, and is still available. http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/record_po...?record_id=2454
  8. This is a Capitol Record Club pressing. For a time in the mid-1960's, Capitol Records operated a mail-order service, through which they offered records on a variety of labels besides Capitol. The non-Capitol records were pressed by Capitol, and assigned Capitol catalog numbers. I've seen Impulse, Verve, and others with Capitol numbers.
  9. Got these when they came out on Muse, and again when they were combined on a 32 Jazz CD. Great stuff!
  10. One of the true originals.
  11. I saw the film in 1956 when I was kid - liked it at the time, of course. Interestingly, it was shown as recently as 1986. It seems to me that we were well into the modern PC sensitivity by then. Wouldn't there have been a VHS release at the time?

  16. A question, MG - correct me if I'm wrong. Is this your interpretation of a lyric from the Coasters' "Searchin'"? The last one should be Boston Blackie, a reference that may be lost on non-Americans.

  25. Ray Abrams played in Dizzy Gillespie's big band in the 40's. By 1959, assuming it's him, his style had moved closer to R&B.
