Do you consider this "growth"? Or is it a passing "phase"? How exactly do you relate to music? Good question which deserves a whole thread to itself I should have thought!

Mozart Complete Piano Concertos: Gardiner/Bilson

Newly reissued - you may have to wait a while for it to actually appear... -
Happy Birthday - the big 4-0 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It depends how much they charge for shipping. It would be $8.70 per disc with today's exchange rates. Unless they charge over $6 per disc shipping it would be a decent deal. They charge postage at cost to non-UK destinations, and the quoted price includes UK sales tax of 17.5% which is *deducted* from non-European Union orders (any tax at the buyer's end is his/her problem of course).

UK mail order company The Woods is offering BS/SN titles for £5 each (minimum order 2) inclusive of UK shipping. http://www.the-woods.co.uk/html/Black_Saint_Offer.html For my own uses I made this copy of their in print list:

for those who missed out the cheap Universal Mosaics
David Ayers replied to tjobbe's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
UK readers may be interested that the Basie is available from mail order (non internet) classical company Europadisc for £32.95 inclusive of postage. They also list Tal Farlow at similar price. The one page of Verve offers they have is in their current mail order list which is not yet online. I can't say how viable overseas shipping would be as they charge extra per CD which might be costly. For UK buyers its a steal and you could ask them about Jazztet and Eldridge (which they don't list but who knows). Their internet site (which needs updating at time of writing) is here: http://www.europadisc.co.uk/ As I said, it is mail or phone order - no online ordering. [Normally a classical only company - this Verve offer is part of a massive Universal offer which has truly fantastic classical boxset deals - also to be found at mdt.co.uk] PS For countries outside EU, British sales tax (VAT of 17.5%) is deducted - this might offset some of the postage costs. PPS Offer lists now updated. Look at last page of This Month's offers for jazz, and at Stop Press for numerous classical bargains. Here is a steal if this is your bag: DG 477 5765 Schubert Complete Lieder Fischer-Dieskau;Moore 21 CDs £29.95 -
As I've said before, it really puzzles me that Here to Stay and Trompeta Toccata haven't been back since the Collectors Choice issues of yoren days. I think I am correct in saying that Here to Stay has not even been on CD in Japan. Why not? The other Freddie Hubbard Blue Notes seem to sell well, and HtoS is right up there with the best of them.

I heard the RVG of Gigolo in Ray's last week. The remastering was very vivid indeed, though I only heard it on the shop speakers and I didn't buy it. It might not pass the audiophile test but it certainly sounded very exciting!

work and spend, work and spend isn't it time to get off the treadmill? Enjoy all those sets! Personally I tend to find work gets in the way of all that listening...

yeah right can we hold you to that?

And has been for half a year now. It's incredible that it hasn't already sold out, let alone moved into the "Last Chance" category. Well at least no one can complain it disappeared too quickly! This death by a thousand cuts is much better for collectors on a budget planning what and when to spend than the sudden vanishing act of the Morgan/Shorter, Kelly/Chambers and Stuff Smith sets.

You can link to this tribute to Derek Bailey from here. The list of recordings used is here. There are several interview snippets with the likes of Parker, Oxley et al., and the opportunity to hear Derek himself speak. These programs usually only stay up for a week.

Predictions on a vintage 2006 Mosaic year?
David Ayers replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I suppose that I'm less keen on Selects for these sort of reasons - the high proportion of content already on CD and often recently or still available. So first-timers are suited, and completists/collectors will go for the few (if any) extra tracks they don't have, but a musical pragmatist like me (with a lot of interests to fund!) finds it hard to pay so much for a few extra tracks. I'm glad this series is a success for the company though, and I can quite see that the big box set market is a tough one - except for the keenest purchasers I wonder how many big boxes most folks actually buy? If you also like classical, the economy classical boxes are bit of a lure these days and also tend to take your mind off the premium product. I think I bought 6 jazz box sets in 2005 and I still haven't got through them all. Most years I don't think I buy so many. -
This is the 'album art'. I have one of the disks. Depends how you feel about Sun Ra. To me, one or two solos are impressive, the collective blow-outs are too bombastic and unstructured.

Hmmm... A Buddy Rich European Version?
David Ayers replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
The Universal Mosaics are real Mosaics in all but serial number. Plainly the deal is to deliver a number of these sets to Verve in lieu of other fees that would otherwise be payable. Mosaic will surely look at the bottom line. Maybe they will sell fewer sets themselves, but they will have lower costs, and if overall sales of the set are greater than might have been expected of a Mosaic-only set then it is all gain. Mosaic can't control the price at which Universal sell, and we should bear in mind that Universal are the copyright holders and that each side in this deal (owners and reissue producers) will be looking at the economics of this arrangement. -

Eldridge went for a little over 50 Euros from amazon.de but has recently reverted to full price. I haven't checked jpc who a few weeks ago had it for under 60 euros. -

Thanks Guys - good tips. I'll start with the WD 40. I've never seen Goo Gone though I can see that might do the trick! -
