  1. The Swinger and Mr. Swing was a Verve Elite. WalMart actually carries this????
  2. More often than not, that's all I'm looking for.
  3. Been listening to the ESSENTIAL collection in anticipation of this upgrade, and I think I'm gonna spring for the box. This is because I already had been enjoying the early tracks and wanted to hear those albums; of course, STAND and RIOT I'd been waiting on for years. But then there's this album called FRESH. Man, I've been wearing out the digitals on the CD listening to the tracks from that album on ESSENTIAL. I said it before: it's like listening to a Prince album, or rather the kind of album Prince wishes he could make. Are the rest of the tracks on FRESH as funky and tight as those that are on ESSENTIAL? If You Want Me To Stay indeed!!!!
  4. That actually ties in to another reason not to place early bids but rather wait to snipe at the very end. Let's say for instance that you're on some rock board and know that fellow board member 'Tommy' has been dying to get a rare copy of a Monkees CD...and suddenly one appears....and soon afterwards you see that 'Tommy' has placed a bid. Well, you're pissed at 'Tommy' because he insulted your mother and also beat you out on 10 other auctions over the years, so you start to screw with him (he doesn't know your eBay handle) and start placing bids. Well, given the fact that he's been foaming at the mouth about this rare cd for 2 years you just know that, up to a point, he's gonna keep coming back.....so you decide to place a few more bids and up the ante...but not too high......and suddenly just back off. The auction finally ends two days later and 'Tommy' ends up paying $78 for the disc...but had you not 'intervened', he might have had it for $40? He telegraphed his interest by placing an early bid and you took the opportunity to mess with him a little. He should have just popped in with a few seconds to go and avoided it. That was you???? YOU BASTARD!!!!
  5. so what reissue have come then, exept this one? JB This thread is almost two years old. Is SWEETS even still in print anymore?
  6. All I know is the Rangers ballpark is now called the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, now that Ameriquest doesn't want to pay to have their worthless name pasted on the stadium. When was the last time something like THAT happened? Where a corporate sponsor removed their name, only to have the more-beloved name return? If nothing else happens this season, if the Rangers have yet another mediocre season marred by pitching woes, overrated defense, and silent bats, for this reason and this reason ONLY, this will be the best season in YEARS for this Rangers fan!
  7. Probably. I even remember telling myself to just bid $5.00 with 20 seconds left. Lesson learned.
  8. Sweets ain't on that one. Well, he is on that album; but those tracks with Sweets were left over from the sessions that produced BACK TO BACK. Big Ben didn't play on the BACK TO BACK sessions. How cool would THAT have been, though?
  9. Thanks for bringing this album back up. Ben and Sweets together were so tremendous! What other albums did they do together? I can think of three right off: Sweets (subject of this thread) Gee Baby, Ain't I Good to You? (discussed in this thread) Ben and Sweets (Columbia, yet ANOTHER fine date!)
  10. Right at the 6-second mark. How do people do that? Not like "Have they no conscience?" but more like "HOw are they able to watch the auction in real-time?" Just boggles the mind! Scary to think there was someone else watching an auction for Don Sebesky's GIANT BOX LP for $0.99. Ah well.... keep on lookin'..... I hate when that happens!!!
  11. My fantasy is Creed Taylor gets his original CTI tapes back so that CDs with the proper LP mixes can be released. But then, scouring used-LP stores is so much more fun!
  12. That gets my vote for worst album cover of the year. BLEAH!!!
  13. Anyone remember that show from the late-70's/early-80's on ABC called "Out of the Blue?" You don't? That's probably a good thing. I've had that theme song stuck in my head all morning, despite not having heard it in over 25 years!
  14. Big Al

    Yo La Tengo

I started with the 3-disc PoL collection and it's about all I've listened to for the last few months. The thing I love about their music is how much it grows on you. This is especially true of BEAT YOUR ASS. It's taken me a full month to really get into it, "Pass the Hatchet" notwithstanding, where they come damn close to out-Sonic-Youthing Sonic Youth!
  15. Saw this last night and I basically agree, except I hated the ending. I'm supposed to believe that they spent the first two hours explaining everything in detail, to only have it wrapped up just like that? (Being deliberately vague so as not to ruin it for those who haven't seen it) The ending felt more like a cop-out (no pun intended), and I felt had, the way I felt after watching AMERICAN BEAUTY (another Best Picture winner, go figure!).
  16. Thank you, sir!!! Or as we say in Alemanian, as translated from the original Portugeuse, "Dankatchoo!"
  17. I picked up the JUMPIN' AT THE WOODSIDE LP by Buck Clayton over the weekend, and now I wanna track down the OOP Mosaic. Since it's not on the Mosaic site anymore, can someone provide the discography for me? Thanks!
  18. In one of the liner notes for the recent RVGs (Lush Life I think; too lazy to look it up), Blumenthal calls Pearson's arranging "fine and functional." Sounds like he's in agreement with Chuck. I agree there's nothing earth-shaking, but they sure are nice listening!
  19. A lotta scary fourth quarters this season would almost bear that out.
  20. I'm working on both of those even as I type!
  21. Heavens, I'm much more anal than that: my songs are off by maybe five or ten seconds!
  22. The only way that record gets played is when someone pries it from my cold dead hands!!! As for the Night Ranger rarities, well..... it was ugly. My computer hasn't acted this way since I tried to save my mother-in-law's Mitch Miller record onto a CD for her.
  23. You missed an important clue about Al's mental state: He is doing this for STYX records!!!! Get help, Al. Seriously. Don't I know it!!!!!! I knew what you meant! I've done the same thing with some of my Gramma's old 78's!
  24. Yup. I actually blame that for starting this mess. I might've never known my records were spinning ever so slightly faster if I hadn't been looking at that thing. In this case, ignorance would've been much better than bliss. Except for that DeYoung vocal thing.....
