  1. Well, that explains why I don't remember him: he was only with us briefly in 2001 before we sent him to Oakland. Hey Dan, you know more about this stuff than I do: who did the Rangers get when we sent Duscherer to the A's? EDIT: Never mind, I found it: Luiz Vizcaino. And is it possible for the Rangers to get above .500 this year? I think that's as good as they're gonna get this year.
  2. I always thought he was as well, but in some recent interviews I've read, he seems to be more non-denominational than anything else.
  3. ACE FREHLEY?????? I was going to start a "Yearning for Zion (YFC) Jazz Musicians" thread, but thought I should start closer to home (spiritually, not geographically) instead.
  4. Just curious if there were any..... I'm Lutheran, but I only wish I were a jazz musician.
  5. Got mine. Direct deposited right to the saving account where it is accumulating approximately 2% annual interest!
  6. Don't let Al stiff you with his beer bill. I think I don't remember what you're talking about.
  7. 67% Dixie, which surprised me because my answers were all over the map!
  8. Just placed my order after listening to it in its entirety on Rhapsody. What a bah-YOOOO-tee-ful album!!! Great work!
  9. Man, if we can work it into our schedule, we'll definitely hook up!
  10. We're going to be up there July 21-23. Hope you've got some gigs those days!
  11. Good blog entry, as usual! Listened to THIS HERE and THE PRESTIGE TRIOS on Rhapsody yesterday, and found THIS HERE to be more enjoyable to my tastes. The songs are compact, bluesy, soulful, energetic, filled with passion and excitement. The Prestige trio dates just seemed to be.... there. IMO only and YMMV. Gonna have to pick up THIS HERE; any opinions on the Fantasy SACD?
  12. I wish I'd had more time to spend at Corner Records last summer. Make no mistake, having Chuck & Skid drag me into Vertigo was a true pleasure, one that I eventually hope to pay off! But next time I'm up there, I'm taking a day and spending it at Corner, where I plan to have a box and a UPS shipping label with me!
  13. Traffic around here hasn't declined as a result of higher gas prices, so I can't imagine the demand for gas dropping anytime soon. People are still buying those GD gas-guzzlers, despite their whining about the high gas prices. China and India have growing economies which require oil, so their demand isn't going to drop anytime soon, either.
  14. Up for air!
  15. 7. AEC is not the Art Ensemble of Chicago; it's actually the Art Ensemble of Chuck. Chuck Nessa plays all the instruments. Simultaneously.
  16. Location: Ann Arbor. Hmmm......
  17. Responded!
  18. Jazzypaul, I got your PM and put the Talking Heads box on hold for ya! Let me know if my PM didn't come through.
  19. Would you like flies with your order?
  20. All PM's replied to, and the list is updated with the holds!
  21. Added a lot of stuff. Post here, and then PM me. I'll answer in the order of posts. Going to bed, talk to y'all in the AM (Texas time)
  22. That's it: time to start some Chuck Nessa Facts! 1. Chuck Nessa didn't start a jazz institution by founding Nessa Records. Chuck Nessa IS a jazz institution for starting Nessa Records. 2. The reason no one's ever heard that Bolden cylinder is because no one has the guts to ask Chuck Nessa where he put it. 3. Kenny G used to play baritone sax until he asked Chuck Nessa to produce one of his records. This not only explains the switch to soprano sax, but also his disjointed embouchure.
  23. Larry, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I suppose that would cause a depression strong enough that would cause a loss of interest in other things that you love. I don't have any advice, but I can tell you that the same feeling has happened to me and it hasn't been the result of anything tragic, any kind of loss, etc. Sometimes, this just happens. You find yourself staring at the collection and thinking, "I have no interest in any of this. I think I'll just dump it." The only thing I've been able to do is just let it slide and stop thinking that I have to listen to music, knowing that at some point I'll be interested in the music again.
  24. Happy Birthday, Chuck! It's truly a joy to have you around here, and always a pleasure to hang out with you and the rest of the Michigan Gang when I'm up there!
