  1. Well, I knew a sweep was too much to hope for, and I guess I shouldn't be too disappointed that the Rangers won the series, taking two of three at the Bronx. STILL.... that was an ugly way to lose last night, and a serious momentum breaker. I mean, damn: everything went wrong last night! A stupid call to the bullpen to bring in the rookie and throw him to the sharks, and then having the rest of the bullpen follow his "lead." Ian Kinsler, the most overrated infielder in the league, committing his SIXTEENTH error to allow five unearned runs. Geez, how d'ya bounce back from that? Damn, Dan, are you psychic or something? The Rangers spanked Ponson (HA!) and the Yanks offense explodes for 12 runs in two innings.
  2. What, you mean Schaap wasn't at Newport in '58?
  3. I always wondered what that "Fallout Shelter" LP was like....
  4. Copyrighted 1956. This was right at the beginning of the kind of production I assume you're thinking of (minimalist backgrounds, etc.).
  5. This Yankee fan is disgusted with how anemic the team has become lately, 4 runs total in the last three games, all losses. And two of those came against the Rangers on the Yanks home turf! How often does THAT happen??? And it's not like the Rangers were scoring tons of runs, but just enough. The biggest surprise is that the Rangers pitching has held the usually-threatening Yanks bats to three runs over those two games. My goodness, if the Rangers sweep tonight..... ah well, one can dream. On the upside, this is the first time in years the Rangers are three games above .500. You know it's bad when we're celebrating such a minimal accomplishent. Hey Conrad, Salty did real well for us last night. Thanks again!!!
  6. Well, it was certainly better than the Tweety cartoons that were coming out at that time. By then, Sylvester was talking more, which really slowed things down. Those first few years of Tweety cartoons (1947-1952), when Sylvester barely spoke a word, are some of the funniest cartoons this side of a Tex Avery toon!
  7. Agreed!!! But "Three Little Bops" is a Friz Freleng toon. I never knew about the guest artists in the band for this session. That's very cool!
  8. I must have a lot of the same album.
  9. If you've heard one, you've heard 'em all, IMO.
  10. The only part of the night that was worth anything. I never would have guessed that Texas pitching would manage to protect a 2-1 lead from the fifth inning on. I'm still pinching myself.
  11. For me, it's just the opposite: I love "Associates," but never could get into Hawk/Ben. YMMV.
  12. Happy Late Birthday Face! Happy Face Birthday Late!
  13. Those were available as an option w/my new gas grill. I went for it. Doesn't that hurt after a while?
  14. Al, I'm going to assume you see more of them than I get to. Is Saltalamacchia ever going to make the next step, or did the Braves really pull one off? Depends on if the Rangers ever give him that opportunity. The Rangers keep calling up all these youngsters, that a lot of folks around here are wondering if the Rangers are auditioning young talent for the trading block.
  15. You have my respect and prayers, paps. I've never smoked cigarettes. Both of my parents were smokers when I was growing up until I was 12, when dad quit cold turkey after having tried all kinds of methods to stop. Always admired his will power, and he's told me before he could easily go back. Mom still smokes, despite her best efforts to quit over the years. The sad thing is, when she tries to quit smoking, she becomes impossible to deal with, so much to the point that we are begging her to light up again. I guess you could say my sister and I are two of the exceptions, having come from smoking parents, that neither of us are smokers. Addictions suck, whether they be cigarettes, internet, jazz.... if it controls you (as the last two do me), then it sucks. So, like I said, I wish you luck, paps.
  16. FWIW, the Rangers have been hovering right at .500 for almost a month now, and have yet to win more than two games in a row in that span. The upside is that they haven't fallen below .500 in a long time; the downside, of course, is that they haven't gotten much higher than .500. At some point, someone down here (probably a Rangers front-office type) will be saying that the Rangers have actually improved over last season. Okay, technically. I guess it could be (and has been) far worse. But .500 ain't gonna get you anywhere, unless you're in the NL Worst...... er, West. First place held down by a team with a .500 record? How pathetic is that?
  17. I don't know about y'all, but I couldn't get past the third track. Green's voice has always been an acquired taste for me anyway, and without the beat, well..... this album takes FOREVER to get going, IMO, and by then I've lost interest.
  18. This is utter bullshit. If you have your credit card accounts with online access like I do, check them when you get home. I guarantee they already know how much the total is. Sure they do, but that doesn't stop them from applying that authorization fee anyway. It works in their favor to do this, which causes the overdraft charges, the overlimit fees, etc.

Listening to SOUL CALL right now via Rhapsody. Oh my but this is SWEET!!! Add yet another one to the endlessly growing list of OJCs to git before I die. Thanks for the heads up Durium!

Shit, after reading this thread, I need to put on BLUE LIGHTS. It's all in what you/I/anyone hears, and despite the fact this record is a half-century old, it still lights me up without fail. Plus, listening to it will be like the aural equivalent of taking a shower to wash off the threadcrap.
  21. boy, what a skeptic you are! perhaps a skeptic, or maybe a narcissist to think that jazz fans are even considered a demographic. i think more people dislike jazz than like it, so putting Miles et al on the list could backfire and cost him the election. Right, as if McCain has anything beyond "Sing Along with Mitch" on his iPod. Assuming he even HAS an iPod.
  22. Willie Mitchell died???
  23. Responded!
  24. I agree! Somebody needs to grab it! PM replied to.
