  1. Ill keep an eye out this side of the pond, i know people who will have one, but whether they would sell it is another matter?Paul
  2. Can anyone give me the correct date of Cals death, as some musicians dictionary state May 2, 4, or 5 in Manila. Also Cal served in us army as medical ordely, did he serve overseas, in war zone., if so where? Paul
  3. Hi pete sorry sold my copy years ago. But as you like sabu, let me tell you an interesting story.i once owned an original Jazz Espagnole on black Alegre only 500 ever pressed. This is the holy grail of Afro-cuban jazz, paid £200 for it from a friend who bought in Japan in early 70's.Since sold it back there as it was alittle scratched, have unplayed jap copy and cd now. What a awesome lp, lives up to its reputation, if you havent got it yet, you can get one for $9 from Wdc radio in philidelphia, on line, ther always on eBay., use that link. Would get £1500 for a mint one maybe more, always willing to talk about jazz , latin whatever, paul tjader, uk london. The re-issue ones from us are not up to japanese standards, they were £30 ten years ago.
  4. Just listening to an old album of mine, Concert on the Campus, absolutely love the vibe solo on Moment In Madrid, by Cal Tjader. Especially the hidden bridge of Dearly Beloved, really drives along, no prisoners.Of course its better known for the supposed drug induced timbale solo by willie Bobo, Bobo was out of his skull, and took the audience right with him, so the notes say?His greatest solo supposedly, there were many. Cuban Fantasy definately cooks, wow? A must for all Tjader Fans, paul
  5. Am looking for Janet Lawson quintet album on inner city label of the same name, as my copy is worn, please leave a message if you can get me one cheers ,paul
  6. I remember buying this lp an original, Leeway that is in Tooting junk shop for a £1, can you believe it. I later swapped it for a lovely green cashmere jumper, what a mistake. It recently went on eBay for £3oo plus/ but have cd that was £24 but worth it, japanese import, always expensive. great cover wouldent mind another copt, paul
  7. B-) Am listening to Monterey Concerts ,Cal really swings gently along on Doxy and kicks it hard on tu Crees Que, a real gem of a cd. I love the live version of Tu Crees que, especially as the crowd gets excited, thats what jazz is all about? What does anyone think? paul in london, where the weather is grey and overcast, but the music is wonderful, ala Latin
  8. Great lp as they all are. Try and get the lp Cal did with Mary stallings, really sultry version of Whydont you do right by me/ Tjader is big in uk, as most people start dancing to Shoshana where they become aware of the man, and then they discover all the other great stuff he and other musicians have made. Are you familiar with the Janet Lawson Quintet, really top notch fusion with superb vocals, So High being the most famous track shes done, rsvp ,paul

  10. Thanks for thr reply, its eight oclock here, just been listening to Francy boland Big Band re-issues, great, especially All Smiles with Dave Pike, great, new in uk on cd. I met Mongo when he appeared at Dingwalls years ago, he was so amazed at the response he got in uk. Thought we would all be wearing cords and goatees? and Poncho Sanchez played Cals Pals for me when he played here long time back. was agreat night.
  11. Although iam a committed Cal Tjader fan, after hearing Tokyo Blues with that kicking big band on Several shades of Jade, who wouldent be, i also love The Alegre All Stars, their wild. The trumpet solo on Tema Alegre by Puchi Bulong is absolutely the end? Ive just been put onto this site, and it will be nice to converse on musical matters, although im not a musician, maybe in a previous life?, i still spread the word, and believe me lots of people are still waking up to my music cds, they love them. paul
