I'm glad there are people here with brains who can help me to remember things like this. Have either of you heard this album? I'm just asking because if you haven't, and are expecting some "typical" Jack Wilson fare, you might be disappointed. It's a good album, but it's a lot more "commercial" than Wilson's other work. Yeah, I've got a burn of the LP. You're right, of course, but I like it enough to want an official release.

I had one of those years ago (can't remember what title), and I thought it was vintage (a distribution deal done around the time of the original release). Don't know for sure, though...

The Wilbur de Paris is a Collectables release, so it could be that the Jay and Kai has nothing to do with Kiesewetter's label as well Except that they have NFR on the cover. New cover, new title for the A&M album... I can't help but wonder if this guy went through the (ahem) proper channels. Ah well, whatever. Thanks to all for the input.

From "Kaia" website... I know of no group [apart from jazz musicians] which has such direction in work. They aim at excellence and apparently at nothing else. They are hard to buy and if bought they either backslide into honesty or lose the respect of their peers. And this is a loss that terrifies them. In any other field of American life, great rewards can be used to cover a loss of honesty, but not with jazz players -- a slip is known and recognized instantly. And further, they do not compare with those in other professions. Let a filthy kid, unknown, unheard of and unbacked sit in -- and if he can do it -- he is recognized and accepted instantly. Do you know of any other field where this is true? And this curious search for and treasuring of excellence is the one thing that has never been said of them nor written of them. - John Steinbeck, Forward to Eddie Condon's Scrapbook of Jazz, 1973

Depends on how old you are, I'd say.

I'm with you on that one, PLUS: Mastersounds 'In Concert' (Pacific Jazz) Montgomery Brothers 'Plus 5 Others' (Pacific Jazz) The Haynes album is sweet. I'd love to see that one too. I want a Mastersounds Mosaic box (big). There's plenty of material for a full set. "The Montgomery Brothers Plus 5 Others" (along with some of those other rare PJ LP's) have already been out on CD ("Far Wes" and "Fingerpickin"), but maybe the sound could be upgraded for those who want a new release. And for cryin' out loud, it's time for FREEDOM, already.

Twilight Zone (1958-1964 original series)

Actually, the first DVD collection had four episodes per disc; I bought a couple of them. The new "ultimate" collection is probably the best reissue overall. For a while the Twilight Zone switched to an hour-long format. Perhaps that's what you're thinking of----the old DVD's probably had only two of the hour-long episodes per disc. Personally, I think the show was not as good, generally, in the one-hour format; lacked the tightness and punch of the half-hours. To be fair, I heard that changing the show to an hour was the bright idea of one or more of the network suits. This is confusing. From what I've been able to dig up online, it looks to me like the latest DVD series is called "The Definitive Edition". Season 1 (1959) is packaged as 6 DVD's, including all 36 episodes (6 episodes per disc). I'm assuming they're packaged chronologically (not randomly, nor by theme). Is that correct? If those were 30-minute shows, that's 3 hours per disc, not including special features. Can anybody confirm this? Do some see this package concept as a ripoff? (I haven't bought that many DVD sets thus far, so I'm a rookie). I've found searching for info kind of confusing and tedious, so I figured somebody who owns it can clear all of this up. Thanks in advance. ...anybody? -
I just came across a listing for a CD titled "My Funny Valentine" by J.J. and Kai, and soon realized it was a reissue of their A&M album ISRAEL, which I've never come across on CD (maybe it's been out in Japan, but if so, I missed it). Does anybody know anything about the NFR label? I don't expect I'll be seeing this in any local brick & mortars any time soon... anyway, just curious. More info on the original album: K. & J.J. I've also come across an XRCD that came out years ago. Never heard any other version than the original OJC, myself...
