  1. One Prestige album- "Blues A La Suisse"- was never released as an individual CD. I hear what you're saying, though.

I don't really like compilations, and since I owned almost every (not the last few) one of those 70's LP's, I've often wished they had all come out on CD. I dig the earlier stuff as well, but I still haven't heard all of it. Ah memories... I saw them twice- the first time in 1973 at "The Jungle Theater" (an outdoor venue) at Marine World, Africa USA (a zoo). Great show, though. I remember a wicked french horn solo by Wayne Henderson (I don't think anybody in the audience had ever seen a french horn ). I wonder if I should have nominated Wayne in the "hippest, coolest stage presence" topic... "Wilton and I, we go wayyyy back, and we come way forward!"... "Scratch, DADDY?!"
  4. Thanks again, eric. I'll look into that, but I'm curious now... I returned to the page that got me to thinking about (yet another) new browser (http://www.gbase.com/Common/LegacyBrowser.htm), and I had even forgotten that "Opera" is apparently another option (assuming I can download it successfully). I think they're offering version 6.0 of that; and as I said above, Netscape (I'm pretty sure it's version 7.0). So, would anybody have an opinion regarding a choice among the three browsers mentioned here? Sorry to hijack the thread, BTW. I'll return it soon.

  6. Yeah. I would definitely have recommended that as well, if it was in print. As a sidenote, there were two other CD releases of material from that performance, each of which contained two (different) previously unissued tracks. Of course, when Verve reissues it, they'll include everything. O.G.S. is one of my favorites of his collaberations with Jimmy. Also "Softly As A Summer Breeze" and "Six Views Of The Blues".... OH, and "Jimmy Smith At The Organ"!! (BN 1551/52). I have almost everything Burrell recorded as a leader, but I've never been too fond of "Guitar Forms" (KB has used the flattop guitar on different albums, but I always miss his amplified archtop sound when listening to those pieces).
  7. Thanks eric. I didn't already know all of that (although I have used iCab in the past, thanks to a rec from Jim Dye a few years back). I'm not very savvy. Anyway, I don't know of a free (not sure I want to invest too much more in this particular system at this point in time) version of Mozilla that's OS 9 compatible. Believe it or not, I actually like this version of IE (compared to what I had been using before, it's actually fantastic ). I'm still proud of myself for accomplishing that download, as I had to search for and download a couple of minor pieces of software (plug-ins ?). Things are actually working relatively well overall (although being on a dial-up ain't exactly wonderful). Bottom line, I know I have to accept the shortcomings that exist for me, because I haven't coughed up the $ to upgrade things. I generally hate upgrades, BTW. I like it when I'm used to the features of a given piece of software. Upgrades always tend to leave out my favorite things, and add new obstacles/headaces. Ah well...
  8. Yeah, and when I went to get some 13watt fluorescent bulbs the other day, they were $5 a pop. Just tried it, and I couldn't detect any differences at all. Thanks for trying, though!
  9. In terms of free downloads, this was the best I could find that was compatible with Mac OS 9 (we're still using a 1998 Mac G3). Due to a recent experience with a site I used to visit quite a bit becoming inaccessible, I may be attempting another (Netscape) download one of these days...

  12. As of right now, the formatting seems too wide (at least for me, using IE 5.1.7). I have to scroll horizontally to see the "X DELETE", "+ EDIT", "+QUOTE" and ""REPLY" buttons. Not a huge problem, but a little annoying...

  15. It's been pretty slow for me so far this morning. After being on the site for awhile (and posting to two different threads), I opened and read this thread, and then clicked on today's active topics. A log-in type window (which I've never seen before) came up, prompting me to give my user ID and password. I did that, and then got a "Not authorized..." message. Clicked on my bookmark for TAT again, got the log-in prompt again, and this time it worked. Weird. Also, although I can see everyone else's, my avatars have been doing weird things. My Jimmy Smith avatar wouldn't appear (for me) for several days, so I changed it. The "Swing Guitars" avatar worked for a short time, and now I can only see about 25% of it (the upper portion)...

Ron, thanks for sharing that info, and I'm glad you're enjoying the music. To answer your questions, yes, $13.99 is appropriate (about the cheapest I've seen); and no, I don't believe these Lumiar discs were ever packaged for sale as complete sets. ===== For all Jobim fans- I just stumbled onto this page the other day, and was very surprised to see it. Someone has uploaded most (if not all) of the rare photos of Jobim that I have ever seen (including early family photos from his sister Helena's biography, as well as many shots used in the biographical portion of the "Cancioneiro"). Don't miss it- there's no telling how long this will remain available online! http://brazilcenter.co.kr/bossanova/tomjobim/fotos/
  18. Testing... I was unable to access the board for most of this morning (noticed that others reported the same problem over at The Back Room). I just reached the T.A.T. page at 11:10 am, and noticed that the most recent post listed was 8:39 am...

Ron, I think what happened was that they sold out what copies they had. Fortunately, this is quite common at Dusty Groove, and in most cases they will be getting more in. If you choose to do so, you can also request to be notified by e-mail when they restock those CD's. If you go to this page, you will see a "send request" button. I've used this feature a few times, and it worked very well for me.
