  1. Satisfied with the winning bid? There's one more up here.
  2. I agree - especially since the composer had a hand in selecting the performances issued. bad news is there will not be more, as Teldec belongs to the Warner group which decided to back out of the classical CD market.
  3. It's true that they did not ask him beforehand, but read about his reaction on his webpage (link)

  5. One of the greatest 20th century composers is gone! What a sad day! Not a collected works, but the reference editions are on the German label Wergo. Teldec has the György Ligeti Project, which is something like a collected works. Here's a link to the obituary page of his German publisher, Schott Musik (in English).
  6. Could you explain, please, for the non Texans? Waterloo Records is a brick-n-mortar in Austin, and every time I go in there, they are always playing some off-the-wall sounds like I've never heard before (along with the occasional Latvian Water-Buffalo Serenade thrown in for good measure) that alternately fascinates and frustrates me. Same with this BFT. (Hope that didn't come across too harsh) Not at all - whenever I get to Texas, I want you to take me there - I got a feelin' I might like it there! I feel the same about the recorded sound, especially after having heard that band live. It's not Tony, it's a trio, though not with bass, and it was recorded in 1982. Well, it's the same label and drummer as track 3!!! You're off track here ..... that trumpeter is not a US guy, completely at ease with himself, and a favourite of many a board member, but tracks 9 and 10 are by entirely different bands. No electronics involved here! Thanks for giving king ubu a chance to read the correct name of the opening theme! It's not Jaco, but .... No Tjader, at least nowhere on this BFT! Thanks for absolving the tough test!
  7. You got half of it!
  8. Again: Not two basses! Marimba, bass clarinet, and a percussion/drums set, three players. Thuis BFT turns into an intrument recognizing test, it seems ....
  9. Not Albert, and listen to this track on good speakers to get the stringed instruments right ... not two basses, that is. You got that tune right! No thumb piano here, and it's not a marimba, but a bala, as they call it on the Ivory Coast. Just one drummer ..... I feel exactly that way about this CD! Not any of the players you mentioned, though. Hank Williams?!? .... and Prelude to a kiss? Brush up your standards! Excellent detective work! I'll write more about this disc in the answers thread. Indeed! Glad to hear you like this! Not a standard, BTW. Not Tjader. Thanks much for the royal answers!
  10. Why not McLaughlin himself? Contractual reasons? Not interested? Anyway, Rodney Jones is able to put in a vibe similar to John's early British records ....
  11. Thanks for listening to this most unusual BFT compilation!
  12. Not a harpsichord this time, and I'm sure you know that tune.
  13. I admit they use a weird mixture, and it's indeed all scored. Not a harpsichord this time.
  14. Neither cello nor harpsichord - I'm really testing your knowledge of ancient instruments ... Wait until I mailed her the link to this thread - maybe she joins in. Who knows, maybe you order a copy from her ....
  15. Not Mussorgsky. But there is a connection between the musician here and Mussorgsky. Stick to the marimbas. Not Satie. Very nicely said ..... Hah! you'll be surprised when you read who/what this is ... Just vibes, one musician, no overdubs. If you look at my posts in the vibes/doorbells threads you'll find out I do not like Burton ..... Wow! Not bad, but it's 17th century. Only one keyboard (piano), and another different instrument played by the singer, and bass and drums. Nothing wrong here ... Something like that.
  16. Yes the vocal effects are intentional. Yes, it's harpsichord.
  17. This board is public - an artist might do a web search and land here and read your comments. I talked to her on the phone this morning as she is close to where I live on Friday and suggested a meeting (but I'm out of town) and she was delighted.

    Jane Ira Bloom

Well, that AOTW was my suggestion - I love her music, have all of her albums except the newest two, which are on my buying list, have seen her live several times, but not in recent times. I think the has the most beautiful tone on soprano on the whole scene. She deserves every bit of recognition for her work, and she is the only artist after whom an asteroid was named. Check her website: janeirabloom.com
  19. ... but this will be remedied at the next opportunity. Had a look and their website, and probably will be a lot poorer when I walk out ... In other words, I begin to understand - thanks for the compliment!
  20. Sorry, no ......
  21. The singer - I consider her a good friend - will be delighted when she reads this!!! No way to translate that - the syllables are improvised just as the melodies she sings. The arpeggio sound is indeed the strumming of piano strings. The bass is synthesizer, but except for some ambience effects and light sound processing there are no electronics, just percussion sounds partly played on some weird things.
  22. Don't hold back - I do not expect anybody to share my tastes. Each to his own. What is special to me must not be special to you.
  23. I find it highly interesting that the comments start on the bonus disc, where I took quite a lot of chances, considering the jazz centered tastes of most participants. You'll be surprised when you finally read who/what this all is ... Let me just say that the theme has nothing to do with instrumentation, although there is a keyboard/mallet subtheme on the second disc.
  24. Could you explain, please, for the non Texans? I hope so, too!
  25. If you love Joe so much, why not get the box?
