  1. to my great surprise this complete ladd's black aces(1921-1924) recording lists jimmy durante playing piano. can anyone fill in the blanks?
  2. The sinner gonna do what the sinner gonna do, be it to get right or to stay wrong. That's one thing. Those of us who get hit by their shit, we got the same choices as the sinner. That's another thing. Ain't nobody ever "all right", and I don't know that even the darkest souls are "all wrong", so pretty much everything comes down to this what choices do you make? After that, it's a pinball machine. Don't run out of quarters. are you a writer, jim? if you aren't, you need to be.

  5. very rarely do i find any 'world' music interesting. what i usually hear is just a whole lot of homogenized nothing. 'world' music is really just a 'clever' way to avoid using the obscene term 'jazz', a modern day marketing and financial disaster.
  6. i would like to hear her peers opinions of her, when they were sitting at the bar. foundation awards are little more than politics and skillful grant application writing. i remember a very very moving interview several years ago when she was discussing her need to get a really good violin. one cannot but like and admire regina, the person.

  8. i was just enjoying 6 or 7 selections by 1940s chicago blues singer, new to me, lil green. the humor in her singing was tastefully risque, her voice was edgy, but dry, with wit and earthy humor, and one can hear hints of later blues singers in her work. clearly, lil was a trendsetter. have there been "o" threads on lil?
