  12. Blow-Up Doll Stands in for Groom Published on Friday Feb 15, 2008 If one bride felt lighter than air in her wedding gown, her groom certainly felt like air itself as 19 couples renewed their vows near Columbus. Sheila Smith's husband, Bob, had to go away on business and couldn't make the Valentine's Day recommitment service at Grove City United Methodist Church. So friends brought a life-size inflatable doll to serve as a stand-in. They dressed Blow-up Bob in dress pants, a shirt and tie, and taped on a head-shot photo of the real Bob Smith. His wife was blown away, because she thought she'd only be serving as matron of honor for four of her friends. After Sheila Smith phoned her husband to tell him about his air-filled alter ego, she wiped away tears as she told how he laughed so hard he couldn't speak. ___ Information from: The Columbus Dispatch, http://www.dispatch.com

  21. a note from andy pierce: Friends: I will be back on-air, every other week, beginning Sunday, March 2, 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. on WHPK, 88.5 FM. Most people will only be able to hear it online, www.whpk.org. I'll also be subbing on WNUR, 89.3 FM, on Friday, Feb. 29, from 5 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., for Alain. WNUR can be heard on the north and northwest side, and south all the way to the stockyards -- depending on the weather, the moon and other unknown factors. Playing jazz and creative music. Unfortunately, things are kind of grim at the WHPK studio. The collection looks as if the last 30 or 40 years did not happen in jazz. I felt like an archaelogist going through the stacks. The place is very much stuck in time but functioning. It reminds me of the line from early Star Trek: "We've sustained damage but we are still able to maneuver." Therefore any and all sharing of cds will be appreciated. I will get them play and encourage other jazz djs to do the same. Most of the deejays bring their own (straight-ahead) stuff. I will help building the new, local section. The archives are interesting but spotty. I found an early Henry Grimes album ... and Fred's second and third LPs... Andy Pierce
