fine fine journalism---this will make it clear??? LINK "A 27-year-old Maricopa man was arrested Monday on suspicion of aggravated assault with a weapon, disorderly conduct with a weapon and endangerment after he apparently fired a gun at a car that had his 1-year-old son, Maricopa police say. Police reported the victims were in their car outside the Arby's at West John Wayne Parkway and Smith Enke Road when Eric Thomas Wright "became disorderly" and was asked to leave the vehicle." A BOTTLE OR TWO SOME NORTHCOAST BROTHER THEOLONIOUS ABBEY ALE WOULD MAKE FOR A FINE, IF SOMEWHAT FUZZY, EVENING. -
LINK 'COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION In honor of the 40th anniversary of the original release of Bitches Brew, Miles Davis’ 1970 paradigm-shifting landmark fusion breakthrough, we’ve created our own Bitches Brew - a bold, dark beer that’s a fusion of three threads imperial stout and one thread honey beer with gesho root, a gustatory analog to Miles’ masterpiece.Featuring the album’s iconic artwork, created by the late Mati Klarwein, on its label, Dogfish Head’s Bitches Brew will be unveiled at SAVOR, An American Craft Beer & Food Experience, June 5, National Building Museum, Washington DC. Haven’t experienced the Bitches Brew album? Two 40th anniversary editions of Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew -- a Legacy Edition and a deluxe Collector’s Edition -- will be available Tuesday, August 31. The newly created ale is designed, according to Dogfish founder and president Sam Calagione, "as the ultimate partner for chili or spicy curry chicken" and best enjoyed "sipped cool, not cold, from a snifter or red wine glass while listening to the Bitches Brew album." Calagione was drawn to the alchemical spirits in Bitches Brew right out of college, acquiring a copy of the album "within months of the first time I brewed a batch of homebrew in my apartment in New York City. I listened to it when I was writing my Dogfish business plan. I wanted Dogfish Head to be a maniacally inventive and creative brewery, analog beer for the digital age. You could say that my dream was to have Dogfish Head, in some small way, stand for the same thing in the beer world that Bitches Brew stands for in the jazz world. You can imagine how excited we are to be doing this project 17 years after I wrote that business plan." "There’s a spirit of innovation, of creativity and individuality, thats at the core of Miles’ music," said Adam Block, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Legacy Recordings. "Sam and Dogfish Head approach their art from the same place and consequently the marriage is an easy and cool one." Dogfish Head and its "off-centered ales for off-centered people" were the subject of "A Better Brew," an article in The New Yorker (Nov. 24, 2008) examining the rise of extreme beer. "Beer has lagged well behind wine and organic produce in the ongoing reinvention of American cuisine. Yet the change over the past twenty years has been startling," wrote Burkhard Bilger. "Dogfish is something of a mascot for this unruly movement. In the thirteen years since Calagione founded the brewery, it has gone from being the smallest in the country to the thirty-eighth largest. Calagione makes more beer with at least ten per cent alcohol than any other brewer, and his odd ingredients are often drawn from ancient or obscure beer traditions. It is to Budweiser what a bouillabaisse is to fish stock.""

You'll miss out on a lot of great Machito recordings, then. Bechet & Lacy? But yeah, after Trane it seemed that every tenor player felt he HAD to take up soprano, but without developing an instrument-specific approach, IMO. I can do without Shepp & Pharoah on soprano, for instance. I have no instrument I'd rule out, though harpsichord and celesta are hard sells. Can't stand the sound of Kellaway's harpsichord on Ben's See You at the Fair. I wouldn't care if Frank Wess and James Moody had never played flute, but jazz would be a poorer place if Rahsaan, Dolphy, Sam Rivers and a few others never did. And Nicole Mitchell & James Newton. NICOLE IS A LOVELY ADORABLE YOUNG LADY AND GREAT MUSICIAN, BUT A LITTLE BIT OF HER FLUTING GOES A LONG WAY WITH ME. JAZZ WHISTLERS AND HARMONICERS I CAN DO WITH OUT. NAT ADDERLY'S ELECTRONIC CORNET SOUNDED JUST AWFUL TO ME. EDDIE HARRIS ELECTRIC SAX WASN'T GOOD TO MY EARS. -

LINK ""Lance didn't do it alone," said longtime Armstrong critic Betsy Andreu, the wife of the Texan's former friend and teammate, Frankie Andreu. She has also found herself a target of Armstrong's attacks and charges, along with her husband, following their testimony in a lawsuit Armstrong filed in 2004 against SCA Promotions in which they described hearing Armstrong tell doctors treating him for cancer that he had taken performance-enhancing drugs. "How else could he pull off the biggest fraud in the history of sport? He had big corporations backing him, the cycling governing body, UCI, defending him, and the media ignoring the evidence. No wonder fans thought that he was clean." "Nike vehemently denies that it paid former UCI president Hein Verbruggen $500,000 to cover up a positive drug test," the company said in a statement. "Nike does not condone the use of illegal performance enhancing drugs." A former Armstrong teammate, meanwhile, said he would lead a demonstration outside Nike's Oregon headquarters on Tuesday to protest the company's continued support of the cyclist. "Nike should not condone the behavior that Lance Armstrong has demonstrated for so long," former professional rider Paul Willerton said. "To see Nike take this stance now is disgusting. Nike's materials have stood for some of the greatest thing you can stand for as a company. A clean sport should be another one of those things." Willerton said he was on a fishing trip with Greg LeMond when Armstrong called the three-time Tour de France winner and threatened him. "Lance basically told Greg he better shut his mouth about the dope, or he was going to find 10 people to say Greg took those drugs," Willerton told Oregon's KPTV-TV. "That rattled Greg, who was adamant to Lance that he won those races clean." Armstrong and Tailwind Sports, the firm that managed his cycling team, filed the lawsuit against SCA, a Dallas company that indemnifies sponsors who offer prizes based on athletic achievements, in a Texas court. The suit was filed after SCA refused to pay Armstrong a $5 million bonus Tailwind had promised the cyclist for winning the 2004 Tour de France because of allegations of doping reported in "LA Confidential – the Secrets of Lance Armstrong," the explosive book by journalists David Walsh and Pierre Ballester."
