  1. How long wires do you need? This may sound controversial, but for shorter lengths - up to 15-20 feet - you could probably use plain 120/240 V electrical wire if you don't own an audiophile system. It's very cheap and can easily be found in various shapes. I know of more than one well-regarded loudspeaker constructor that has stated this. Internal wiring in average speakers is often fairly basic.
  2. Very interesting, romualdo! Does the discography offer any explanation why the matrix numbers for 'Blue Train' are out of sequence with the other titles recorded at the same session?
  3. I'll wait for a report from an owner of the latest release, but if they are not there it would seem like an inaccuracy of the discography. If David Weiss is allowed to disclose any info it would be very interesting to hear how these alternates were discovered, if previously hidden or not mentioned.
  4. If these new alternates are indeed releasable, I find it strange that they have not been considered for any previous reissues. I don't have Cuscuna/Ruppli's Blue Note Discography but would be interested what it says about these takes. Rejected?
  5. Thanks for your post, Gheorghe. Much of what you wrote was new to me.
  6. The difference is you save your money to buy something else which does go to the artist or a high-quality reissuer. I save my money by not buying the PD set. Making a copy of any of the available releases is another matter to me.
  7. Making a copy of a PD label set, as suggested above, seems no better morally than copying the source itself, be it a Cuscuna reissue or whatever.
  8. Thanks for mentioning the Rearward releases. Has the trio session been released elsewhere before, or is this previously unissued? Haven't been able to figure that out from info on the web.

  10. Astonishingly, all the 2011 MPS reissues are already out of print. I realized this when trying to get a copy of 'Faces' which is nowhere to be found.
  11. I don't know about regulations in the UK and elsewhere, but over here there is a recommendation that the surface temperature should not exceed 27 degrees Celcius.
  12. Agreed. I'll take the Miles albums (and unofficial recordings) recorded with Wayne during 1964-69 over the Wayne BNs, easy. But I like the latter a lot too. I really don't want to set Shorter's BN:s against his recordings with Miles. For me, his own albums help to define what Blue Note was about in the mid 60's and - regardless of what could have been in other company than "BN regulars" - make me understand (a part of) his musical universe. I think I voted for 'Adam's Apple' when this thread appeared. I had to think for a while and probably considered 'Etcetera'. The more "theme-improvisation-theme"-based structure of the BN:s (compared to Miles' live recordings) offers my limited mind better insight into his compositions. For me personally, they also create a "mood" like only the finest and most engaging recordings I've heard do.
  13. One of the LP:s my father used to play at home was 'Study in Brown' by the Roach-Brown band. I could recognize that album already in my pre-school years. Although it wasn't until my teens I started to explore jazz on my own 'Study in Brown' helped to define what jazz is for me and it still holds a special place in my heart. I think it's amazing to realize how specific musical experiences in my youth is affecting my tastes in music to this day.
  14. Still, I know of people who have lost their homes and entire belongings through fire, at least one friend has lost his entire record collection through theft. Eventually it will become evident just how reliable the cloud is, but I'd still say you're safer with two different cloud storage services than with two hard drives. That said, I'm hanging on to all my CD:s and LP:s, but that's because I love the feel of an album rather than anxiety over potential data loss.
  15. Well, there's always streaming of course.
  16. Everybody will have to decide for themselves, of course, but I believe my data is safer in the cloud. Pick a multinational company that's making a huge profit (Google, Amazon etc) and therefore is unlikely to go out of business and I think your data is safer than on any consumer end storage unit. Just compare the number of people that has lost anything in a hard disk crash to how many who have had their email accounts wiped out because of a technical failure of the provider. I believe the first group is considerably larger. Backups of the rare stuff in the cloud and the rest through a streaming service - I'd say that's less risk of losing the music than on scratchable LP:s or breakable CD:s.
  17. Actually, I believe that for a majority of people under the age of 40 "the cloud" already seems like a far much safer place to store personal stuff like photos and documents, compared to their local hard drive. Since those people also have stopped buying CD:s, they will basically have to choose between the convenience and perceived safety of a streaming service or the obstacle of downloading.
  18. Do you have Spotify in Italy, Porcy? I don't do download, stick to lps, and unavoidable cds, so I didn't know but from my computer spotify home page is in italian, so I presume it exists over here. Spotify isn't downloading, it's streaming. It's the future!
  19. Actually, it was described as "hidden". This thread has obviously run its course. Moderator, please close immediately!
  20. No congratulations since 2007?! Well, I wish you a happy birthday 2013!
  21. I'll look at a bookshop nearby to see if there are any copies. If there are, I'll post a few pictures of the book. Adlibris (who has the best price so far at 249 SEK) offers free shipping within Sweden. If someone abroad has trouble ordering the book I could always order it and send the package further at actual cost.
  22. Actual shipping cost for 2000 g within Europe would be around 24 Euro (225 SEK), almost as much as the book itself. Let me know if I could be of any help.
  23. Jan Allan, probably Sweden's finest jazz trumpeter and who is still playing wonderfully, is perhaps most well known abroad for his recordings with Lars Gullin. During his early carreer as a jazz musician he usually brought a camera with him and took thousands of pictures. His son talked him into going through the negatives that mostly were never developed and last week a 256 page book with some of them was released. It seems like a very nice document of the Swedish jazz scene and guesting stars of the 50s. His wife's site has a few of the photos: http://www.annallan.se/Ann_Allans_hemsida/Jans_fotobok.html The title is 'Jan Allan minns sitt femtiotal' (Jan Allan remembers the 50s) and the book is being published by Brombergs in Sweden.
