  1. I don't care much for the political discussions - because I think they take focus from what should be the main content of a board like this. If you cancel the political threads, the activity on AAJ seems slightly higher than here - maybe because they have 700 members compared to this boards' 200. In addition to that, I just learned that Jazz Corner has a new lay out, so now I'm posting on three boards. Life was simpler when BNBB was the one and only.
  2. Bought the original LP at Dobbels in the early sixtes, together with the Fletcher Henderson Reunion LP (The Big Reunion - Webster, Hawkins and a line of great trumpets and trombones plus the great Jimmy Crawford on drums etc etc)- both LPs are outstanding.
  3. Jazzmoose: "comments of Pharaorock of all people"? I think PR's comments were competent and serious, and apparently he has some understanding of the music. Of course he was a little hotheaded in a previous thread on the BNBB-refugee matter, but you should'nt condemn the man for that, especially after he apologized.
  4. Just keep practicing, boys and girls - I just heard that Keith Jarrett charges (and gets) USD 75 000 plus expenses for his trio. Me, I got the equivalent of USD 20 playing lousy bass and piano in a lousy band in the early sixties. Probably was'nt worth more, anyway. That said, IMHO Keith Jarrett trio is one of the greatest groups in jazz ever (I believe posterity will confirm that ), and he might deserve every dollar he makes. I mean, there are some soccer players in England and elsewhere making more money in a month than Jarrett makes a year. Don't understand what they all do with all that cash, though.
  5. I'm here - or, as Dexter Gordon used to say "Have no fear, Dexter is here." Well, I'm not Dexter, just pepe from the old BNBB. I also registered at AAJ. I think this is a difficult situation. AAJ is really doing fine job welcoming hundreds of BN-refugees, adjusting their board lay out to our preferences and after just a couple of days coming forward as a really nice place to be. I'm quite impressed by their efficiency reacting so quickly to our needs. They also have a lot of interesting stuff besides the board function. And then it's this place, reminding me very much of the old BNBB and having many from the old gang on board - and again, I'm impressed. I'm afraid this means I'll spend more time at my computer than I used to. Maybe I look forward to a merger.
  6. England also has fostered John Surman - IMO one of the greatest barytone saxophonists in jazz ever. I've followed his career since I heard him on an early Mike Westbrook record called Release, where he soloes all over the horn. If Surman had lived in the US he'd be an established "star" (jazzwise, that is).
