OK already , I'll get it. If it's still available, that is. The transaction is a bit more complicated. I'll post here again ... a) ... if I did manage to get it or not and if yes, ... B) ... if it was worth it from my point of view once I have listened to it. Thanks a million for all the comments! Cheers!

Duke Ellington Centennial 24 CD Box
neveronfriday replied to neveronfriday's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Just wanted to give everyone on this board a chance to maybe make an offer first before I sell it elsewhere. The box is here. It was completely new (shrink-wrapped) and untouched. I opened it and played two CDs to check if they were ok (the box was stowed away for several years) and both the CDs and the box as well as the book are in mint condition besides me having removed each item once and put it back within about 10 minutes. I already have one, so it's gotta go. Quick-take: Duke Ellington: The Duke Ellington Centennial Edition - The Complete RCA Victor Recordings. RCA Victor, 1999. Please post here or PM me if you are interested. Cheers! -
I'm not all that much further south of you (Karlsruhe). Send some of them postwomen my way. We've only got guys here. They rip, tear and trash everything they get their hands on. Imbeciles. Cheers!

Thanks for the comments. I'm not sure if I shouldn't go hunting for newer remasters (at a much higer price, I know). I'm gonna sleep over it. Cheers!

How does about $70 sound for the whole set?
-
I'm looking for some comments on this box set (especially sound quality). I think I might have a chance of picking this up relatively cheap (this would be the EmArcy Nippon Phonogram Co.Ltd.1989 10-CD release). Thanks for your input. Cheers! *ooops* Just noticed that this should've gone into the box thread. Sorry.

Welcome! And, thanks! Cheers!

Me again. I've gone through so many headphones for so many different units that I have to say it really depends on the equipment and the listener, like with so many other things. I have one pair of Sennheisers for my digital drum set, on which my twice as expensive other Sennheisers sound like crap (and vice versa), I had a pair of KOSS phones once that served me well for over 15 years (and shaped my listening curve in such a way that any other pair [no matter what the cost] sounded like cheap junk), I had top-of-the line Sony phones for a mixing board (on which anything else I had added too much trebble and narrowed the sweet spot too much), etc. Of course it is good to narrow down the huge number of headphone models by ways of recommendations, tests or else, but ultimately you should test the phones you like on your own equipment. You'd be surprised how awful phones you liked in the shop can sound when you plug them into your unit at home. Believe me, I made some mistakes there myself in the past. Cheers!

by all means, jump in, if the water's not too cold. I'm waiting for the disc. Then I'll get my feet wet. Cheers!

Hell, I'll do one five years from now. Gives me time to expand my collection until the time comes. So, yes, please put me on the list. If the heavens don't descend on my head before, I'm game (I smoke, I drink, I don't sleep much, and I listen to an eclectic mix of music ... the odds should all be against me). I have a good idea of what I want to put on there (currently I have problems escaping the piano trio and quartet phase which I entered about 6 months ago, so ...), but who knows where I'll be three years from now? For all I know, I might have ended up on some 70s disco forum debating if this ... ... actually was the best thing since sliced bread. Drums? Maybe. It's just that I'm surrounded by them 24/7, so I might opt for something else. Bozzio? Now, I'm definetely NOT into that kind of thing, but being a drummer myself, I would stop doing WHATEVER (and I mean that) I'm doing at that moment to sit behind that kit and give it a good workout. Roadies? 1 to set it up. 84 to keep other drummers away from it. Cheers!

Right off the bat, I can only recommend headphones which cost around $180 or below, the Sennheiser HD 580, which are excellent. In Germany, they are only rivalled by the Beyerdynamic DT 931 (I chose Sennheiser for my stereo, but the Byerdynamic phones are excellent) for around the same price. No idea if any of those two are available around your place. If you can still find the Sennheiser HD 570, they are quite a bit cheaper (at about $100) and are very good although voices are transmitted a bit too "thin" for my taste. Try eBay or some second-hand source. My fave hi-fi mag (it's almost always spot on) raves (!!!) about the Philips SBC HP 890, which they say offer excellent value (!!!) for a price of around $100, but I have not had the chance to check them out and have no idea if they are available in your neck of the woods. That's it from me, but I'm sure there are other great phones around. Some Sony headphones perhaps? Cheers!

Yep, now that I've been watching the test for some rounds, I'd like to join up for #6 (I'm on the sidelines for # 5) and then also put together my own collection anytime it pleases the masters of this board. I think I can come up with an interesting selection of tracks, which will certainly contain lots of piano stuff. And drums. Actually, lots of drums. Cheers! deus62

Well, that should be enough covers for a while. When the next 10 are finished, I'll stick them in here. Cheers!

Hi everyone, I've moved the deus62 covers to a separate thread - all 17 of them as of now). Please don't post anything in the other thread. If you have special wishes or any comments, write them in here. Thanks!

Here's the first batch of completed blindfold test covers. If you want to use them, you don't have to pick them out from the other thread one by one. Note: Many of these were quick exercises and did not take more than 5 to 10 minutes to create. So, please forgive any inconsistencies, mistakes, etc. I will change the dates on these once future tests are completed. Enjoy. P.S.: Don't post anything in here, please. I'll just stick new covers into this thread as they roll off the belt. Comments etc. you can leave in the other other Blindfold Covers thread. Thanks!

Can you describe what makes these special for you? I'm interested. I've never had the chance to hear those speakers, but I've heard quite a bit about them. Cheers!

couw, I was a bit slow with all the BFT stuff at first. I just started stuyding the respective threads in detail a week or two ago. If you still have a copy, mind sending me one? I could PM you my address (and even send you the postage etc. for it ... just let me know). Thanks for the album covers praise (that also goes for the other people above in this thread). Once I'm on the roll I produce one of these every twenty minutes or so. Once in a while I just do a quick imitation of some Blue Note covers, other times I'm just inspired by listening to some CD. #10 above, for example, I cooked up last night after I had read an interview online with an ECM artist. I remembered their subdued covers, downloaded a shadow pic from photocase.de quickly and put that one through the Photoshop mill for something like three minutes. Once I've completed a more comprehensive run of covers in this size (I have no idea if they will work with any the cover software progs out there ... I just used some Kylie Minogue cover [sorry, first one that popped up] from some cover scan site as a basis, size-wise). I might make some covers at a higher dpi resolution in the future with a lot more care applied in the design and work process. They will take more time. I just went through my two Blue Note cover books again and they are just endlessly inspiring. Damn, they made some fine covers over the years. couw ... mind telling me a bit about yourself in a PM? NE Germany? Where, why, how, when, and why not? Cheers! PS: I'm just listening to Fathead by David Newman (Atlantic) and there's lots of orange on the cover ... and in the music. I think I can feel a cover coming on ...
-
Some of these will probably not be compiled in 2004. If you actually want to use the covers (for me these are just a pasttime activity while listening to some good tunes and relaxing inbetween workloads), I can repost them with a different date. Just PM me when the time comes. Cheers! Would anyone mind if I opened a separate thread with cover designs? I make these all the time.
