*phew* I got some right (just because I did listen to some of the cuts over Christmas) ... or at least knew who was playing (tracks 2,3,4,7 and 10). I'm not a tenth as knowledgable as many others who posted their thoughts, comments and ideas, but I enjoyed reading them very much. Aside from the ones I guessed/knew straight away, I have to admit the rest I had no idea about. I just sat on the sidelines watching the conversation. What really impressed me about this set was its scope ... I love being sent into new directions to explore, and I will go ahead and have a look/listen. The immediate result of this BFT was that I spent quite a bit of time getting to know my Slide Hampton again. Besides my Jazz in Paris sides I checked out Dedicated To Diz: Slide Hampton & The Jazz Masters (not much Slide, but an excellent album) and especially the wonderful arrangements and the sound on Spirit of the Horn. So, John, thanks for the many hours of enjoyment I got out of your BFT!

Hi everyone, I just had 10 minutes and started designing a cover series for my own CD-R jazz samplers. I don't know if you have any of those, but if you do, here's a free cover series to go along with them. I will design covers 1 through 10 and then come up with a design for the tray inlay (back cover) which you can use as a background for your own track listings, if you like. It'll take a while. These things are hastily put together on short breaks I take (Photoshop work relaxes my often tired brain). Here's what the thought behind this series is: 01) It shouldn't use too much colour ink (if you are using any at all). 02) The only thing which should change are the images and the series number. 03) Each series of 10 covers has the same colour (first 10 orange). The next 10 will have another (probably primary) colour. Feel free to use them as you like. Cheers! Hi everyone, in another thread I started on Teddy Wilson, Larry Kart recommended a Collectables release which I am listening to as I type this. Maybe it's just that Wilson's stuff is so hard to come by, but I am simply delighted by this disc ... and the sound quality is way better than I expected, especially on "Mr. Wilson and Mr. Gershwin" (... I don't have the LP that Larry Kart has, so I can't compare and find the small faults he has described in the thread). Now that I'm checking out oldies.com I find a whole bunch of releases that would interest me, all at a very competitive price. Now, I've gotten carried away in the past and am wondering, before committing some of my hard-earned cash, if you can give me some general comments re experiences with other releases by Collectables. I'm especially interested in sound quality, as always, because I'm fully aware that if, as in Teddy Wilson's case, the original recording was of fine quality, a reissue like this one can't be all that bad. So, did I just get lucky or are Collectables uniformly good (not great, but good) in regard to sound quality? Any other comments? Thanks for your input! Cheers!

I have something like 3000 CDs. Although I find myself listening to jazz almost exclusively nowadays, that doesn't mean I don't listen to and buy other stuff. Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Peter Frampton (yeah, I was a teenager on a school trip to London when that one came out), King Crimson, The Rhino Disco Box, Night on the Bold Mountain by Mussorgsky (in the original orchestration), Dean Martin (Bear Family), Steve Vai, Van Halen, Thin Lizzy, Thunder, Motorhead, Earth, Wind and Fire, Marvin Gaye, Marvin Gaye, Marvin Gaye, all the Universal Deluxe Editions, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Andreas Vollenweider, Chick Corea and Bobby McFerrin, Riot, Aerosmith, Whitesnake, Wagner, Verdi and Mozart, and, and , and. My answer: I'm all for it.

The person who sold this one had several of these - apparently he had bought them as an investment and kept them for quite a while because he wasn't happy about some people in Germany (on amazon.de) selling these for about Euro 150 to Euro 190.- I guess he suddenly needed some cash and I took two off his hands because I knew I could get what he was asking back from some fans here. So I sold them for exactly the amount I paid. Not a cent made. Call me humanitarian. Call me dumb. Call me jazz fan. I'm somewhere in the middle. Cheers!

Funny, same thing happens to me. And I've got a job in which I can't really afford to do so. On top of that, biorhythmic activity is non-existent within my body. Really, I don't have a biorhythm. And, to answer the question, I go to bed as late as humanly possible. Sometimes not at all. This edges me into heart-attack country faster than other people. Cheers!

Peter, I haven't seen the new set anywhere else but on Amazon.fr yet. And there it's up to around 180 Euro (I'm too lazy to check). Chet Baker: Broken Wing is available on amazon.com, but I would get it second-hand somewhere. I bought it for 5 Euro, mint from my local dealer.
