  1. I have to completely disagree here. That is simply not true. ´Neither the amp nor the speakers can improve the source material the playyer serves up. That's, if at all, a common misconception. Then again, the quality of CD players today is almost uniformly good, and you can't go very wrong with a cheaper model. I have two more expensive ones, and I would like to take up the challenge WNMC proposed: you CAN and DO hear a difference when swapping players of varying quality on a decent amp/speaker system. Without a problem, I might add. Cheers! P.S.: Re your problem: From what you answered so far, I would think some mechanical part is shot to hell. The same happend to an old Philips player I had ... I did open it with a friend who knos his way around and he advised not to get it fixed ... in my case the tracking was off.
  2. Hi everyone, I need some help here. On a whim, I bought two CD boxes (mono recordings; Capitol Japan) on ebay.de I thought they might be good compilations to have flying around at home. Altogether I payed about 64 Euro. Both boxes are Japanese from the beginning of the nineties. Besides having found some of them for around 50 - 70 EURO on the Internet, I don't really know much about them. Do you? Thanks for your input! Cheers! 3. Thanks! Cheers!
  4. Oh, there'll be reincarnations, I'm sure. WIDE EXTRAWIDE REAAAAAAAAAALYWIDE THE TOUCHER TALLERTHANYOU RICHY RICH DILDY LONG ... Just keep your eyes open. Cheers!
  5. I've had at least three of these from people I know today ... why do people open this crap? Duh!
  6. You mean to say that my posts could be more childish than other ones on this board? Hm. True, maybe.
  7. I hope the US Postal service or whoever had the pleasure of transporting the whole thing awarded you some type of medal of honour. I think in Denmark they do that if you buy a Ferrari and hand over the same amount again in taxes. Cheers!
  8. Well, he's had a birthday every day since. Duh. Cheers!
  9. Yep. What, my birthdays get in the way? Sorry, but they are serious business, so they stay (I bought myself the Teddy Wilson Mosaic on my first birthday and received it today, on my third). It's a psychological thing. I won't go into it. I'm sure I'm not the only screwy person around here. Cheers!
  10. I just stumbled across this one and thought one or t'other collector on this board might be interested. Apparently (not much info available on the page itself ... I guess you have to contact them or they've got info in their newsletter, if they have one), the late Emil Knudsen's record collection is going to be auctioned off. The first titles of that collection have been put online here. Cheers!
  11. I just recieved my free copy of "Donald Byrd Quintet: Parisian Thoroughfare" from a Mr. Dominique Bernard, who also included a handwritten postcard, excusing the error in the box. Talk about some damn fine service!!!!! Cheers! P.S.: And, if I'm not totally mistaken, it is this Dominique Bernard. P.S.: Always covering my tracks, I also wrote to Universal Germany. They contacted me straight away and let me know that although they did not sell the Paris Box in Germany, they would also send me a copy of the CD, so I would continue to be a happy Universal customer (as if I wasn't that already ... while typing this, I am looking directly at a larger number of Universal Deluxe editions, for example). So, if anyone else has problems with the Paris Box, I might have a Donald Byrd CD to spare ... PM me if you hit the wall like Peter and I did. And three cheers for Universal France and Germany!
  12. Because I'm German?
  13. Just have a look yourself over at http://www.collectorz.com/. I got myself the pro version for all the export functions (I think I paid forty-something-or-rather). As far as I recall, you get a lifetime's worth of updates when you buy the software. I first looked at it about two years ago, and it's still around and getting better by the minute. Recommended! Cheers!
  14. Yep. I started playing with the XML export function a bit. If you know your XML, there's nary a thing you can't do with this program. Cheers!
  15. deus (bag), You must be dumber than a POST (which most of yours are to begin with). I've never worked a day in my life. Anything I have to do can basically be done from where I sit at a computer. I can practice (but of course choose not to), I can fuck, I can write music, I can book gigs (but I choose not to), I can hire musicians, I can take my provender, I can exercise, I can jerk off (but don't find it necessary), I can listen to music, I can write prose, I can bath, I can get haircuts, I can hit on chickies, I can watch television, I can pay bills, make deposits, withdrawals, I can buy anything I need, I can smoke dope, shoot up, get drunk, snort Peruvian Marching Powder,....... A few minor things not available to me at ringside computer: I can't drive my cars, I can't mow my lawn, I can't shovel my driveway and maybe one or two more. In short: THE WORLD IS AT MY FINGERTIPS. DEEP A regular Howard Hughes. Cheers!
  16. Absolutely true, and a great (!) program it is, but for the casual collector, the automated features of music collector save lots of time. Cheers!
  17. It's amazing what you guys can spend your time on. I know, Deep, you're rich and all of that and have f*** all to do, but there is got to be other things in your life that require your attention?
  18. My point exactly, patricia. Why does it have to be here? On this forum? Is it really that important for some members to swap lurid tales (I guess this is a rhetorical question)? But, I have nothing against a thread/separate area such as the one suggested by DEEP, because for most of the members here, it would be invisible. Still, there are a million addresses out there where you can load this kind of stuff off. No need to include it here for the umpteenth time. Cheers!
  19. Stop pouting. It doesn't befit you. And stop getting all riled up. We're all just playing here. Peace.
