  1. True. They just should have kept her in an institution. Sorry, I'm not usually this harsh, but in this case ...
  2. I smoke. Without exception, my CDs are fine. All of them are, ever since I started the year they put out Cds the first time. (83?/84? somewhere around there) If at all, my CDs sound better because of the patina they have acquired (I'm sure some Hi-Fi freaks smoke onto their CDs regularly). Cheers!
  3. I didn't see anything on the Telarc site about the box being remastered, but the Chicago Tribune review excerpt quoted on the site refers to extra tracks in the box. I haven't compared the tracks in the box to the original single CD's, so I have no idea if there are any extra in the box. And I can't compare the sound since I don't have the original CD's. I, too, have other Oscar Peterson CD's not previously mentioned in this thread, but I guess you have to draw the line somewhere--Oscar's been quite prolific, and apparently is still going strong. Yes, yes and yes. I have noticed though that his post-stroke material that was recorded recently (the live DVD from Austria, for example) shows some serious deficiencies (especially after repeated viewings). In the beginning I was amazed that he could still play, but on that DVD you can see the kind of total blunders that show and the way his close buddies (in a positive sense) cover all the holes in OP's playing. At times I just cringed. Sad to see, although, again, it is amazing how he can still get it together somewhat and how much love and support he gets from a dedicated audience. Sorry to say, but I think he should stop recording, no matter how much I like/love much of his stuff. Cheers!
  4. I am a teacher myself. I can maybe (abstractly) understand how sth like that could possibly happen, but it's still sick. The guy was 12 years old! I know we've been over this, but no teacher should be allowed to abuse his authority and power like that. Sorry, but totally sick. The lady's got a serious mental problem. Cheers!
  5. A bit off topic, but I have a KISS album that actually glows red when you expose it to light (I've been looking all over the Net trying to find out what kind of collectors' item this is, but I have never found one single reference to it. It has all the standard tags and copyright text the normal album has, but it does glow. And, I've never seen any other LP that does that. For all I know, it is a Tchernobyl pressing). The sound sucks (it's some sort of odd black vinyl that also looks red if you hold it against the light). Maybe I can finance the Complete Dinah Washington on Mercury with that thing? Or maybe a house? God knows. Cheers! Edit: This one:
  6. Yep, and I think we have at least 90% the same sentiments when it comes to Styx. The 10% left over might just be at what we cringe when. Maybe we should compare notes one day. Cheers!
  7. Not bloody likely.
  8. The only song I still like is "Renegade". We had some hairy parties at which this song (plus lots of Santana, Doobies, Neil Young, etc.) usually popped up. Styx = memories. Fond ones. I do have the live DVD (Return to Paradise Theatre, or whatever). Cost me a $, no more, and I have had a song or two on in the past years (Usually after a couple of glasses of Venezuelean rum.). The problem with that DVD is, Im sorry to say, that they play the stuff well but they do look a bit geeky throughout. It's the way I would feel, if I had to do the same stupid stuff at parties today that I did way back when. Excellent drumming, btw, on that DVD. Cheers!
  9. I have all of the above. Plus lots more. I'm thinking of purchasing the Blue Note live box although I have all the original Telarc CDs, simply because the Telarc site said the box set was remastered. Anyone able to confirm that (and that it's worth getting the whole shebang again)?
  10. That one made me laugh. And, it is absolutely true. I hope I'm not totally wrong here, but that's that 90s high school TV series, isn't it? If yes, I know what you're talking about. Cheers!
  11. Big Al: That is a perfectly good explanation (that I can subscribe to). Thanx! This is what I wrote before I read that: Let me clarify a bit. a) I have a bad-hair day today. b) Some people just like to barge in and take a dump on music other people might like. It has become quite a common thing here. They don't care at all about the others maybe reading their posts (or, better, they do care) and they don't give it a second thought. There are people on this board who like Styx (use the search function or go to any of the other boards to have a look) and all you are telling them, in as brutally a fashion as possible, is that they just suck. Not good style. Especially if you do so from a (sometimes) seemingly superior but at least respected vantage point (and that is the way I see you guys). Sorry, but I think that's not a good way to go. A little respect for other people's tastes, even if you totally disagree, I think, is good style. c) I like all kinds of music. I might go overboard sometime, but I try not to. I actually used to like Styx - about 20 something years ago - simply because they delivered a great live show and I got my money's worth. Haven't really listened to them since. Although I would agree with the sentiments uttered here, I wouldn't say so in a way it was spelled out here. Cheers!
  12. Why is it actually that you guys are so damn arrogant? And no, I'm not a particular Styx fan. Cheers!
  13. So will I. I ordered that one too. Let's see how they manage that one. I'll report back as well, from good ol' Germany. Cheers! P.S.: I ordered a couple of damn hard to get Tommy Emmanuel CDs (Australian guitarist) not so long ago. All CDs arrived here from Caiman within 14 days. Wow!!! I wonder if I'm a valued customer by now. I hang around an Australian board a lot and you can't even get those CDs over there. One that's easy to get is Emmanuel's "Only" (HDCD) disc and it is fu**in' fabulous. I saw him a live a few times and although he did an embarrasinly huge amount of easy listening stuff that his (American) record company forced him into (apparently), the guy just smokes everything and everyone. Man, can that guy play. Wow, wow and wow again. Love it.
  14. Vertically or horizontally doesn't matter. If you have a closer look at a normal jewelcase, it's built so that the CD does not touch the case itself. So, no problem. If you take the CDs out though and store them in bags etc., you should of course not pile them up. Cheers!
  15. I live in a rather huge apartment beneath the roof of a three storey house. I have lots of (don't know the English term) slanted roof corners which usually are a waste of space. So, I filled those corners up with CD shelves. They are all IKEA "Ivar" shelves (lowest version available) and if I move one day, I just need to buy new side-pieces (which can be had in 5 different heights up until above 2 meters) and I will go tall instead of wide. The cost for that is a laugh. I think one tall side-piece costs 5 to 10 Euro. Oh, and I do have more shelves elsewhere. Might post a pic one of these days. Cheers!
  16. no, but there are eric marienthal, spyro gyra, and rippingtons discs. no joke... wish it were, -e- Yep. I went through that phase as well. If you look elsewhere in my place (yes, there are more shelves) you will also find death and speed metal, a German oompah disc to scare unwanted guests away (I don't use it much because it actually attracts the wrong people), there are Madonna, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion discs, recordings (I collect those) of Mussorgsky's "Night on the Bold Mountain" in its original orchestration, etc. Just to freak everyone out here, I just added the entire first run of the Status Quo Remasters (Quo, Piledriver, Hello!, On the Level, Blue for You, Live!) and 4 Cecilia Bartoli recordings. How's that for eclectic? Cheers! P.S.: If you look again, there is actually one Kenny G. album in there. Ha! P.S.S.: As you can tell, I don't sell discs really. But I'm thinking of it. That whole easy listening and fusion stuff I haven't heard for 10 years or more.
  17. Buy a pair of glasses? Look left please, 5 boxes next to each other, plus jewelcases spread all throughout the jazz portion of the shelves ....
  18. I've heard good things about them. There are better ones (which cost quite a bit more), but with the money-back guarantee, you can't really go wrong? Cheers!
  19. Marvin. Marvin. Marvin. Marvin. ....
  20. Got it! Thanks!
