  1. I don't know the Definitive rip-off (which it probably is), but I will surely check it out. If it's better, I'll get it. Question: What I like about the Schaap one is that the high- and midtones are in there. Despite all that (irritating) noise, that made this reissue the best for me. All the other ones - and I've had plenty - seemed deficient in that department because of the noise-removal technology used which usually resulted in a more "dampened" sound. So everyone is saying that they took extreme care removing the clicks but otherwise made sure that this important aspect of the recording remains intact (doesn't sound like Definitive to me, but it could be true)? If yes, I'll certainly get it. Did anyone have both and compare them on a decent sound system? Cheers!
  2. I have to admit that I've had quite a bad conscience lately. I keep grabbing the BFT discs regularly although I know that for the time being I simply don't have the time to participate. I have too much work which ties me down so much that I don't have the time to voice any informed opinion. And I don't like posting stuff like "Yeah, it sounds like Teddy Wilson on crack but I'm sure it wasn't." All I can say is that when my time comes, I'll try to repay everyone with a good selection (well, one I like). I know that defeats the purpose of the BFTs, but I'd hate to miss out on the discs that more often than not have turned me onto completely new stuff which I would not have considered otherwise. I'll also try to participate more when things become a bit more quiet, but in the forseeable future, things look bleak. Hell, At the moment I sleep during the afternoons, work from 8 in the evening until next day afternoon and head off to bed again - which I'm about to do now (for 4 hours ... groan). Sorry. Cheers!
  3. Yuck! I prefer the B-52s.
  4. Hm. All arguments not withstanding, that Benny Goodman Carnegie release is still the best available (on CD). By far! I love that one. So I don't really care about the rest. But if all of what's been written about Schaap is true, I'm sure as hell going to be more careful whenever I come across any of his "works". Cheers!
  5. Hm. Although I usually always take the side of acoustic instruments when this kind of topic comes up (and I will as well in the future), recent developments in technology could possibly shake that kind of belief that digital can't hold a candle to analogue. Example (and I will try to dig it up in the basement): About two years ago a sound engineer friend of mine from Scandinavia sent me a copy of an article from some pro magazine which told the story of a test that (I think) Yamaha ran with three world-famous pianists. You know, the ones that always say that they can hear within a second if, say, a Bösendorfer is used or some "cheapo" digital solution. This test was supervised by some engineers to make sure the company presenting it's latest sampler (or whatever it was) didn't beef it up with a megaton of sound processors, effects, etc. Simple setup: master keyboard with sampler; known pianist playing. All three of the test persons were unable, in a live setting, to tell digital and acoustic apart. None. Two of them actually went for the digital one. I know that these tests are usually dumb, but they do show that these blanket statements that digital is "crap" are simply too strong. Hell, I've played drums for a long time and use a digital set (two Roland modules chained together) and if you know what you are doing, you can tweak them enough to get damn close. Not close enough yet (sample time is simply too short for cymbals, toms tend to "machine-gun" a bit, despite Roland's new interval control technology), but one or two more generations further down the road (that's about 12 to 15 years Roland time ... they milk their models to the max until their "users" are about to stage a riot) and we will have (I'm absolutely sure) the first drum set which copies (I use that term on purpose) acoustic drums. Sure, you can ask why anyone would want to copy something that comes with a price tag way below the machine copying it, but it sure does come in handy (studio, practice; live settings in which time is of the essence). Until the fuse blows. Then you're screwed. Technology has come a hell of a long way. I, for one, did not think it was possible, but I did change my mind recently. We're damn close. End of rant.
  6. Yep, this release is Schaaped.
  7. Straw Dogs is an altogether different film, Aric. Stray Dog, the one originaly mentioned in this thread, is Kurosawa. Straw Dogs is Sam Peckinpah. Easy enough to confuse though. And both were Criterions so..... Just imagine Straw Dogs filmed by Kurosawa. I wonder what colour(s) he would have chosen. A sea of red?
  8. Thank God there wasn't any wardrobe malfunction. Imagine what that could have lead to.
  9. Ooh, oh. I hear B3er running down the hallway. Almost here ...
  10. WE WANT PICTURES! Congratulations!
  11. The new apple IPod Shuffle sounds like the thing for me (although I'd buy an IRiver MP3 player or whatever instead). I can't for the life of me imagine why the entire population needs to have 20 GByte of music along. There might be cases where that comes in handy, but mostly it's total overkill and just the "Honda Gives More Head" school of thought. Make that "mine is bigger than yours", if you like. I think the idea of a small portable device which can hold a couple of albums which are then easily uploaded/exchanged via USB or whatever is a grand idea. I walk to work every day (15-minute walk or so), i often take the train or subway, and i regularly go on longer bicycle tours and need some good tunes along. But I DO NOT need a thousand albums or 10.000 songs along. Thank you. I have a hard time remembering what I have in my CD-collection or on my PC (170 GByte worth of music). I'll get one of these small thingies next chance I get. BTW: Does anyone have a small device that holds something like 512 MB and can recommend it? Sound quality is a priority (I guess the headphones play a major role here) ... I don't give a hoot about the menu system or functions. Play, Stop, Jump and Play next folder/album is all I need. I don't even care if it shows me a title. Cheers!
  12. Have to catch up on my Dobbies info: Cheers!
  13. Make sure you supply a deinstallation routine as well.
  14. I'm thinking of getting myself this box. I know Bagatellen had a review on this one which sounded like stuff right up my alley at the moment, but does anyone on this board have a copy of this rare box (it's readily available via a German online dealer; I just asked and they're getting a couple in on Thursday) or has anyone heard any cuts from this? I need another push in the right (or wrong) direction. Cheers!
  15. Do you have pictures of her inpluses (or is that inplui)?
  16. Her inpluses have labels? Hell, I never noticed. I'll keep my eyes, err, open next time. Cheers!
  17. Hmm, I'm a little SKEPECKITAL... Could you list a few of her INPLUSE albums? You misunderstood something there. INPLUSE IS NOT AN ALBUM! Cheers!
  18. I also have my own ORGANSIST. Hot damn, she's good at it too. Cheers!
  19. Oh, the free concert (1972, I think) on the DVD was attended by over 10.000 people. Wild and great stuff. Peter Przygodda worked a lot with Wim Wenders. Excellent film. Cheers!
