What live music are you going to see tonight?
Aggie87 replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
He's playing here in Phoenix on Sunday night, tempted to go see him again. I saw him about 2 months ago in Austin (he plays at the Continental Club there every Tuesday when he's not on the road), and it was fantastic. -
What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.

It is only available in the Dire Straits Live 78-92 box at least for now. That box retailed for $59, and is available in your neck of the woods on Bullmoose's website for $54. It compiles all of their officially released live albums, plus this previously unreleased one. I think it's a good value. I like their live albums, but I'm not sure they are quite as good as their studio material. -

This thread seems to really be for any non-jazz music that people are listening to, despite the thread title... -

Very good - the album itself is great, and the extra disc has a couple of instrumentals, remixes, live tracks, and covers - pretty much what you'd expect, but it sounds good and the music is solid. -

On the positive side, since you're vaccinated, it likely won't kill you, despite it not being a fun experience. Three people I knew died from Covid, before vaccines were available - an uncle, one immediate co-worker, and another co-worker's father.

I don't know about that, but I'm personally more interested/impressed when I visit someone's house and see an actual physical collection, versus someone having no library other than digital, with nothing to actually look at. It doesn't mean they like music more or less, but I feel like I'm meeting a kindred soul. Saying that, I'm also at a point where I'm not interested in growing my own collection significantly larger, so I tend to cull things I don't listen to as much anymore, which makes space for newer purchases.

Not me - I like the tactile experience of putting on an LP or a CD and playing/listening to it.

Amazon used to make this statement on CDR listings: "This product is manufactured on demand using CD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply." I don't know if they still do or not. But if it is in the listing, they're at least warning you it's not a silver cd.

Not sure about this, but it looks like Valerie Carter did support on at least some of the Browne/Orleans shows in 1976. Maybe she was who you saw. If that's who it was, Browne wrote a song about her ("That Girl Could Sing"), as did Steve Winwood ("Valerie"). -

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/40148726/astros-ronel-blanco-ejected-foreign-substance-check You'd think the Astros would be extra committed to not cheating, given it's sort of their permanent reputation nowadays. But no. And I know other teams cheat as well, but they're posterboys for it. The Astros were my favorite team from about 1982 until the discovery of the cheating in the 2017 WS season, so about 35 years. Since then I've lived in Philly (and now Phoenix), so my loyalties are with the Fightin' Phils. Went to the last NLCS game in 2022 where they beat the Padres to advance to the WS, and then Game 4 of the WS, where the Astros beat Philly and then ultimately won (maybe legitimately this time?) the WS. Also went to 3 Phillies/Diamondbacks games during the regular season here in Phoenix in 2023, and then Game 4 of the NLCS vs the DBacks as well. So again, go Phillies!

These two and Number of the Beast are a perfect trifecta. Nothing after was quite the same, IMO. -
This looks wonderful. I'd love to do that hike - how long was it?

Jimmy Smith - Bluesmith - Ever On A Legitimate CD?
Aggie87 replied to Kevin Bresnahan's topic in Discography
The only CD issue on Discogs is from Russia. https://www.discogs.com/release/3955513-Jimmy-Smith-Bluesmith I'm going to guess it's not legit, but it says licensed from Universal to Lilith Ltd. There's one copy on discogs available, from Italy, but with shipping it goes for $44. -

Nice. I used to love travelling in the Hill Country when I lived in Texas, to see the bluebonnets. One of the last bluebonnet specific trips I took was to see Willow City Loop in Fredericksburg.

I was in the Thunderbird Zia on Saturday a.m. for Record Store Day. I got there at 5:00 a.m., but there were already about 200 people in line, a number of whom had been camping overnight. Got the things I wanted, though, so it was a success. That's the location that is closest to me (I'm also in the north Scottsdale/Carefree Highway area), but it's still a 30 minute drive from my house. I also shop in the Bethany Zia location (which seems to be their "flagship" store, but only recently moved to that location from the one they'd previously been in for many years), but it is a little sketchier area of Phoenix. I've never felt threatened there though. I didn't realize you'd be here in town as long as you have been, or I'd have offered to meet up for a coffee or something.

This is a good one! I find things I love on every Ely record. Both his solo work and with The Flatlanders. I've meet and hung out with Joe a number of times when I lived in Texas. He's a great guy, and easy to talk to. I suspect his touring has slowed down substantially, sadly, as he's gotten older. Here's a song he released last year that isn't on an album yet.
