  1. as long there is ebay: to increase the value of records dramatically is not in sight ! of course we had all a great time with it in the early days mostly - now many of us say goodbye to ebay because of the problems discussed in this forum very often. but every record will show up again and again - like peter says above: only the real masterpieces are hard to find and that means i.e. for blue note: lexington pressings or 47 west pressings in almost mint condition. all other issues will not rise in my opinion very much. if you have not at least a mono and near mint copy of a blue note you have lost already (from the money view of course only !)
  2. ... not yet but will keepy my eyes on that one, thanks spinning right now: milt jackson - the jazz skyline - org savoy us pressing bennie green - s/t - on time records
  3. lou levy - hymn - philips mono japan pressing george wallington - knight music - jap. atlantic mono
  4. i like that idea too - just said this to my wife this morning while still angry about these bad records i got. and also serious non ebay dealers are fine - although maybe you pay a little more, but you have a good service, can return the item and you know the grading.
  5. The problem on Ebay : as soon as you decide it, you'll browse and find another one... and bid on it ! Bought my NM Maiden Voyage from Jeff Barr 5 years ago. At this time it was not considered as a heavy one... ... thats right, stop browsing is the best way otherwise you are lost in the next crazy bidding !
  6. OK THATS IT FOR ME TOO JUST GOT 2 BLUE NOTE ORIGINALS (HANCOCK MAIDEN VOYAGE MONO * FUEGO BYRD MONO) BOTH DESCRIBED AS NEAR MINT ! YOU KNOW WHAT I GOT: BOTH RECORDS WITH FEELABLE AND AUDIBLE MARKS !! FORGET IT
  7. ... just read the book - really great. i saw on TV the film with paul newman too, but only the first 45 min. ! does somebody has it on VHS or DVD ?
  8. thelonious monk with frank foster - monk - riverside japan mono
  9. oh yeah, that's the good ole NEAR MINT MINUS thing best way is to buy them play graded - then the chances are higher to get a fine record. i do not buy any more records which are not at least NM !
  10. Take it you mean Riverside 'Sound of Sonny'?!? yes riverside of course
  11. ... which record did you just add to your collection ? i just bought on saturday on a record fair here in munich the following stuff: - miles davis, cookin, prestige japan mono - red garland, soul junction, prestige jp mono - sonny rollins, sounds of sonny, prestige jp mono - candido 1973 candidos funk
  12. thelonious monk - monk - prestige japan mono 1953/1954 recordings in superb fidelity
  13. dave hamilton - blue vibrations - workshop jazz motown groovy vibes
  14. saturday night evening jazz groove melvin sparks - spark plug! - prestige
  15. so to get back to the point: if you want to start blue note vinyl collecting and money is rare, start with near mint liberty pressings (about 25-40 $ mostly) or as many mentioned before, try to find the japanese king pressings (watch out for mono) which are about 30-50 $ in near mint and have a superb fidelity. (avoid most japan toshiba emi pressings) but do not forget to have a fine turntable with a good cartridge, otherwise the best mono ny pressing sounds like trash
  16. - jimmy giuffre cd - new forms in jazz / complete capitol rec. 1954/55 - lou blackburn - the complete imperial sessions - blue note cd - kenny burrell & john coltrane - sacd
  17. howard johnson - everybody loves a winner - revue us lp
  18. ... south of italy was a jazz dorado back i the late 50s and 60s and had lots of jazz collectors
  19. average price for a near mint copy this year was about 300-330 US$ !
  20. He also said, "In the long run, we are all dead." MG i always wonder WHERE do all those italian dealers (there are some others) find those stone mint record ? maybe from the kingdom of death... or from the widow. ... tha same i asked myself yesterday - i think the "capri" area was a jazz paradise some early times.... see the film mr. ripley .... lets go to italy - good food anyway (okay france is not bad either )
  21. That's why i'm not a BN completist. Actually, i sold most of my stereos and got rid of most of the VG+ (exept when heavy Lex or 47w). Now I just try to score some favourite albums just like other labels. And it's been two years since i have not bought any heavy BN album, because i'm very picky, and the prices for NM/VG++ have put me out of the market : i simply can't afford it. I eventually got tired of this BN hysteria (i've been into that for too long !) and i think there are many interesting records from other companies (Riverside, Savoy, Prestige, Epic, Argo, to name a few), still affordable, and as hip as Blue Note. I'm tired to read averywhere about the rarity of Blue Note, and to see 4 or 5 copies of "Blowing in From Chicago" or "Star Bright" for sale in one month on Ebay. ... i think just to buy those blue note titles for an investment for the future will make you not that happy, but if you buy the ones which you ALSO like to listen to, then it is pretty good feelin. but of course you are right, there a lots of other great jazz records from other labels, which are sometimes even better than blue note recordings yesterday night dizzy reece blues in trinity vinyl was sold for 765 $ on ebay. it was near mint. no chance - empty trousers still from the soul station deal Moreover, i'd say that paying 1 or 2 k for a NM Blue Note is NOT an investment. It has been said here that the last bidder (the winner) is in fact the only one who whiches to pay this price. In other words, as Mr Keynes stated it, trees will never reach the sky. Something that has gone so high cannot keep on eternally, even with the supply and demand rule. I would be really happy if prices were going down : my own collection would decreasse in value, but i could afford more - that what is the most important. Now thtat you have a 765 $ bid on Dizzy Reece, see how many copies of this record will pop up on Ebay in the next weeks....Meanwhile, i'm still looking for a NM copy of South American Cookin' (Curtis Fuller, Epic) that rarely pops up on Ebay.. that is not only the point how often - it is its condition ! the record yesterday was play graded M- !! the last 3 years NO dizzy reece blues in trinity vinyl has shown up in that condition ! ... and that is what will count in the future to get high prices.(beside its orig pressing) same with old cars and oldtimers - you can find lots of them but very little in near perfect condition ! in 3 years you will get for that record 900 $ - i promise you !
  22. luther allison - bad new is coming - gordy promo 1973 crunchy rough blues
  23. uups, then forget of course - sorry can i delete this thread ??
