  1. just finished: herbie mann - the latin man - uk cbs pressing with great sound
  2. how can be a record near mint with a feelable scratch ??????????????????????
  3. I HATE IT (NM MINUS)!!!!!!! ... are you politician ? they describe things nicer as they actually are or do not come to the point ;-)
  4. oliver nelson - the blues and the abstract truth - impulse kenny burrell - common ground - verve
  5. NO ! this is not OK and will be never ok ! (see above)
  6. vg+ may NOT have bad scratches (according to goldmine grading), so a record with a skip is always vg- or g ! no discussion about that ! i bought about 1000 records on ebay and would never buy a record which is graded under vg++ (see my topic what the hell is nm minus). the best sellers are those who described the sound quality also in their own words, so you know it is graded audible ! there sometimes a vg+ graded record can show up as what for others is a near mint record. and be careful: now at christmas time many records are near mint minus minus minus ;-)
  7. dizzy gillespie - gillespiana - orig verve 1960 us mono > lalo schifrin is doin a great job here - all compositions from him miles davis - vol 1 - blue note lexington 12" issue (1501)
  8. blue note originals in MONO and in NEAR MINT (really near mint) are rare - these issues are getting more and more expansive - all others will not rise in value but getting cheaper or stay the same level (incl japan toshiba ! issues, stereo issues of new york, liberty and of course all united artists pressings!
  9. carmell jones - with harold land - pacific jazz mono bill evans - portrait - riverside uk mono
  10. ... looking for some 60s jazz on SACD format (hybrid or only SA) thanks for some offers tom
  11. What's a Scorpio reissue? MG I think it's one of those current US BN vinyl reissues that you see a lot of in the shops over here for £10.99 or thereabouts. Never heard one though. scorpio is a record distribution where most of all ebay dealers getting there reissue lps from - he is specialised in jazz (lots of blue note titles) and soul funk. 1 blue note lp costs 6 $! pressing quality is sometimes bad (warped), some are pretty good but never to compare with reissues from the 80s or the originals ! and be aware: the labels of those blue note reissues are very often counterfeits of the orig labels (new york address or 47 west address etc). huge offers of 60s latin soul funk titles - you can not buy there as a private person!
  12. budd johnson - off the wall - argo thats a cool swingin jazz session - like it

  14. ... which color must have the label of the original usa lp muddy waters "electric mud" ?? i think the cover you find in black or white ?! (whats the difference?) it was released on the cadet concept label, right ? thanks for your help !!! tom
  15. sonny clark - blues in the night - king japan blue note > sonny doin a great job here and sound quality is also superb !
  16. ... i have also a random system but well organized each record got his own number starting with one and then going up, up, up. so never a problem with sorting over an over again. this number is on a poly sleeve and i make a photo of each record to file it in a great program for music collection: iphoto by apple ! (actually not designed for record collecting of course) you can use it really great as a database, you can search for the index number, the artists the title etc., you can also give each record a key word like blue note or female vocal jazz or what ever. you can put lots of infos in just one field like the price you paid, the value and so on. really great is also when you have a ipod with photo function like a small ipod nano, you can have your collection with you all the time ! and a last great event is, when you browse through your records all mixed up it brings some jewels up again you maybe have forgotten already .... enjoy
  17. i think this is a great album and very often overlooked: the freddy redd trio - san francisco suite - riverside lp

  21. ... got that record a year ago on ebay and played it several times. not a must have jazz record, but it is good - more easy and mellow than his contemporary recordings. think you get it for about 20-25 US$ at the moment, near mint up to 30 $
