  1. Personally, I prefer when album covers give a bit of helpful information. Especially the names of key sidemen. In a record shop you can turn the cover over to get information on personnel, tunes, etc. But on the computer, iPad, or iPhone, a picture of an album cover with nothing but the name of the leader and title can unsatisfying (to me).
  2. This is one of my favorites bY Lew Tabackin.
  3. Haydn - Op.33/3 & Smetana - Piano Trio
  4. Dvorak - String Quartet No.13, Op.106 & Schubert - Symphony No.8, D.759 "Unfinished'
  5. I met Don Heckman many years ago in Detroit when he came for a weekend jazz festival. It must have been about 1965 or 1966..
  6. Yes, Piano Tuners are not given the recognition they deserve. Good article.
  7. My friend Ted O'Reilly in Toronto reminded me that Don Thompson, usually thought of as a bass player, is also a very good vibes player and pianist.
  8. David "Fathead" Newman made some really fine albums throughout his career. His Atlantic and High Note label recordings as well as Wide Open Spaces on Riverside are winners in my book. Adams / Pullen are not musicians that interest me.
  9. Three musicians come to mind that are highly skilled jazz players on both Vibes & Piano. Eddie Costa Victor Feldman Buddy Montgomery Are there others? One finger piano players such as Lionel Hampton and Terry Gibbs do not fit this concept.
  10. Piano Concerto's No.1, & No. 6
