  1. Charles McPherson - Horizons
  2. The Ruby Braff - Ellis Larkins is (for me) ok. But I am a very big Ruby Braff fan, and there are numerous other recordings by him I much prefer. Though they are likely not from the '70's. I agree with Jim on the Ellington/Ray Brown session, it is a delight. The others on the current list are not really "my cup of tea".
  3. Haydn - Piano Sonatas Nos. 30, 33, 47, 53, 58
  4. This CD has, perhaps, the best playing I have ever heard from Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis. Though I much enjoy the Johnny Griffin-Lockjaw Davis albums, the context on this Basie small group recording strikes me as right in Jaws wheelhouse. He is not really a bebop oriented player, and thrives in a mainstream swing context. No Jaws fan should be without this CD.
  5. Beethoven - Cello Sonata No.1, Op.5/1 and No.3, Op.69 and 7 Variations in E-flat and 12 Variations in F major
  6. My favorite track here is "Ornithology" where Bird flies high to the moon. The pianist, who I have never heard of, on every track is Sam Krupit. I am guessing he was a local Washington D.C. musician. He plays quite well on this recording.
  7. Sad news. Enjoyed his recordings as leader, and as a sideman with Dizzy. Is he the first jazz musician who has died as a result of the Coronavirus?
  8. Just located these two on my shelves. The Art Farmer-Fritz Pauer - Azure is a duo session.
  9. Haydn - Cello Concerto No.2 Bruch - Scottish Fantasy Op.46
  10. Scott Whitfield Jazz Orchestra West - The Minute Game
  11. Teddy Edwards, James Moody and Cedar Walton are extensively featured.
