  1. Brahms - Cello Sonata No.2, Op.99 Mendelssohn - Symphony No.5 "Reformation"
  2. Larry's recent post about this motivated me to pull it off the shelf for a listen. Al Cohn is marvelous throughout the entire CD. Any fan of Al Cohn should seek this one out.
  3. Barry Harris has been one of my very favorite jazz musicians for about 60 years. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to first hear him a number of times in Detroit prior to his moving to New York. Also heard him quite a few other times over the many decades in places like New York City and Toronto. It was good to have the chance to speak with him on a few occasions.
  4. Raff - Piano Trio No.1, Op.102 Mozart - Piano Concerto No.27, K.595
  5. Haydn - Op.33/1 Schubert - Piano Sonata D.958
  6. Just pulled this one off my shelves. Plan to listen to it soon.
  7. I especially loved Wynton Kelly's playing when he was a sideman. He was on many recordings in that role on Blue Note , Prestige, Columbia, Vee Jay and a variety of other labels. As has been said, when you saw his name as a sideman on a recording you could count on it as being one worth getting. His recordings as a leader were good, but not outstanding.
  8. Still another highly important jazz figure has left us. R.I.P.
  9. Schubert - String Quartet D.353 Gade - Symphony No.4, Op.20
  10. This CD has the very first recordings by Bud Powell. It is suspected that Thelonious Monk may have recommended the 19 year old well to replace pianist Ken Kersey with Cootie Williams. Bud appears on 19 of the 25 tracks on this CD.
  11. Svendsen - String Quintet - Op.5 Mozart - Clarinet Quintet K.581
