  1. A very good Canadian trumpet player. If you like Art Farmer, you will enjoy Kevin Dean's playing.
  2. Yes, I have a copy, but have not played it in quite some time.
  3. I saw Chet Baker live in Detroit in the 1950's. As I recall he had Phil Urso with him on tenor.
  4. I was saddened to hear of the passing of jazz guitarist Peter Leitch. My first experience with Leitch was when I reviewed his first album - Jump Street recorded 1981 for the Canadian label Jazz House - for CODA Magazine. Unfortunately that record was never reissued on CD. I was visiting Toronto not long after my review, and along with my friend John Norris went to hear Leitch at a local Toronto Club. He was leaving for New York a few days after the gig and would soon become a fixture on the scene there. Following Peter's last set that evening we had a chance to talk. That was the only time I recall seeing Peter Leitch play live, but have very much enjoyed many of his recordings for labels such as Reservoir and Concord.
  5. A perfect way to begin the new year is with an album by a very strong favorite of mine. The Barry Harris Trio - The Last Time I saw Paris
  6. The early Lee Morgan albums on Blue Note are perhaps my favorite recordings from him. I hear a "purity" in his trumpet solos that show the strong link to Clifford Brown. This album has some fine alto solos by Clarence Sharpe, and a sterling rhythm section of Horace Silver, Wilbur Ware and Philly Joe Jones. As almost always, the piano solos by Horace are simply a delight.
  7. Cedar Walton Trio - Song Of Delilah
