  1. Hahaa...that is just wrong. ES was on Jimmy Kimmel tonight after Bill Maher. Apparently she was on the JK show almost 3 yrs ago, so they shared a joke about her getting the new artist award even though she's not a new artist. She is a sweet, genuine, down to earth soul. What a sweetheart. She performed the song "really very small" to promote her CD, Chamber Music Society. The tune goes from a bass vamp into a nice refrain. I saw her strength in serving up the bass, so no surprise there. In terms of the vocals, she is very gifted harmonically beyond her years, and it's jazz all the way. The violins made for unusual backing, but it's not like you could confuse it for any other genre than jazz.
  2. That is my fiancee's favorite of the year, too. It's darn good--I thought Pixar only did better with Wall-e and Ratatouille. Funny how their animated characters are better actors than 90% of those hollywood types.
  3. I've given away my versions other than the APO stuff. I think I may be missing some takes.
  4. What a treat. Wish I had the chance to see him conduct Shostakovich.
  5. She's a jazz musician...and she's worked hard. And she has natural talent. Case closed.
  6. That's too bad. Konitz was in great form when I saw him.
  7. Does anyone use the Richard Gray stuff?
  8. Hmmm . . . that does not sound good Rolf. I would consider ditching the TL. It shouldn't turn on components like that, no matter what the external power or weather conditions.
  9. I confess I did check out Mila Kunis in that hot dress. She has this "little brat" thing going on that turns me off, but she's a beauty!
  10. The first power conditioner I used was a Monster strip of some sort that helped the sound a bit but constricted it at the same time. I graduated to a PS Audio Power Plant P300 but it was inefficient and couldn't handle my components when the wattage would spike--it would shut down. I then got a P600 but that was too bulky and didn't fully solve my power requirements. Now I have a PS Audio Premier...same great sound benefits but smaller, lighter and greater watt capability. It has still cut out and shut itself off on rare occasion. What is your experience with power conditioners?
  11. Yeah, Spalding sure seemed like a jazz musician when I saw her do bass duties for Tyner.
  12. Same here, I had both eyes on the computer and was waiting for something meaningful or humorous to be said. Never happened.
  13. Yep, good job. I thought the Social Network might have had a chance. It did win some lesser awards. Inception picked up a lot of technical awards, too.
  14. Totally agree. I also wish Deakins won the cinematography award and the Coens won best adapted screenplay...so that's three that True Grit should have had so far.
  15. I was not fotunate enough to see the 80th birthday concert, but did catch Rollins live a couple times. The first was at Carnegie Hall in '93. Amazing show. I was sitting up in the nosebleed seats, but even from up there you could feel the power and intensity of his playing. I remember Bob Cranshaw was the bassist that night.
  16. So do you think Colin Firth has best actor locked up? Probably it's either him or Jesse Eisenberg.
  17. Forgetting for a moment the large dose of BS that comes with the academy awards, what films do you think will be the big winners tonight. I'm betting on King's Speech as the big winner, but would not be surprised if Social Network wins best picture. I hope True Grit takes home some Oscars, particularly for Steinfeld. The Fighter may do well too. Predictions?
  18. yeah, you ought to check it out. It takes a couple episodes to really get into, but once you're hooked there's nothing else quite as good currently in production.
  19. Sure it's possible depending on the source material. I don't like PE enough to justify the huge price-tag of the JSACD.
  20. No, I've been known to do that and I have a vinyl-head buddy whose whole existence is based on watching ESPN with the sound off while spinning records.
