  1. I hope they continue to grow on you. I like 'em more than the TOCJs. Sidewinder is coming soon, which is good for me as I can't find my CD anywhere.
  2. Just ordered My Favorite Things. Curiosity got the better of me.
  3. The more things change, the more they stay the same. You can still spend more on a stereo system than a house, and expenses/lifestyle always seem to rise to whatever one's income will support.
  4. Maybe Analogue Productions reissues them as a set of 45's ? Not possible. Chad Kassem has already weighed in.
  5. These arrived yesterday and I've listened to the batch. The sound quality was overall excellent with some surprises--the Patton sounded incredible, like his organ was in the room. The upper octave sounds were very piercing and the vibrancy and dynamics of the organ were delivered better than other digital versions. The 3 Sounds was also surprisingly good. Blues Walk I expected a bit more detail but still an advance over the 1990 CD. It's funny how expectations can be proved wrong. The standout sonics of the bunch is tough to call. Possibly the Ike Quebec. But they were all well worth the upgrade.
  6. I saw him with Ravi Coltrane, Francisco Mela and Esperanza Spalding a bit more than a year ago. While Tyner was in fine form I was shocked at how his appearance had changed since the previous time I saw him. His hair had gone white and more concerning to me was that he appeared thin, gaunt and very frail. I've caught him perform live several times since the mid-90s. In those days his face and belly were more round and his fingers didn't seem as arthritic. But he can still play like no other.
  7. Yep it was working great for him...except he's losing custody of his sons. Not good.
  8. It is a disease, but I have seen people with nothing pull themselves up by their bootstraps and face each day with grit and determination to get healthy. "Decent people" is beside the issue. Charlie Sheen has all the resources and people who care about him--a support structure under and around him that would be the envy of any struggling addict. I don't know why anyone would want to waste their emotional energy feeling sorry for him.
  9. I can agree with that by a hair on some titles--but don't let them hear you say that at stevehoffman.tv or they'll grab the pitchforks and torches and come after you. Holistically I find the SACDs give the impression of live dynamics, details and overtones that makes the XRCD sound a touch flat in comparison. Anyhow, it's a moot point on this title. Chad just got back to me and reminded me it's a Music Matters title and won't be coming out on SACD.
  10. Bull shit. Really? I think you'd get a different take from the director of Apocalypse Now. Yep, maybe Martin Sheen is ok now--I dunno. But for a long time he wasn't and I'm sure even if he's clean at the moment he battles addiction and impulses every day.
  11. An SACD version would be even better. I have an email in to Chad Kassem/Acoustic Sounds.
  12. Porcy, that's a nice component. I understand it doesn't get hot like the PS Audio gear. Kevin, you guys get more lightning over there--is that what you mean by "saving"? I think I've seen two lightning storms in the 12 years I've been back in the SF bay area. For a while, though my electricity was going out all the time. I think it was because of some construction nearby, which has been on hold since the recession grew legs. Lon, I bet that setup sounds great. I really wanted a Sony player such as the 5400 but ended up getting the Oppo 83SE, which was mod'ed by NuForce. I think the Sony may do some things better but I wanted a universal player that to handle BD.
  13. New Yorker should hire him as their cartoon editor immediately. http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/charlie-sheen-quotes-as-new-yorker-cartoons
  14. Lucky me! My fiancee said she ordered the new APO versions of Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, and A Love Supreme. Can't wait to hear 'em!
  15. Yep, great scene...perfectly delivered lines.
  16. I never bought cassettes except blank ones. I'd always buy vinyl and record onto cassette and do the bulk of my listening to the tape. Then in college I was broke and had to sell my turntable and unfortunately most of my LPs. By the time I had a decent income, CD was king and that was what I bought.
  17. Just opening up a discussion on these components and conditioners for general comment...no "right" or "wrong" answers. It's all good. Lon, does the Duet accommodate all your components? Seems like a good approach.
