  17. Just ordered it! As an Ellington freak... I don´t know how I´ve been able to live with it!
  18. Just ordered it! I will post my impressions (I´m a almost a newbie regarding Randy Weston, I must recognize)
  19. Just ordered the Eldridge set. Can´t wait to spin this one!!!!
  20. Just finished the book. All I can say is that, after reading Chris Albertson´s "Bessie" I will never be able to listen to Bessie´s recordings the same way! It´s an interesting and well documented research, full of first-hand interviews (wow, Ruby had an amazing memory). But, furthermore, it´s written with much more than great respect and appreciation for Bessie: I would say it´s a "love affair". Besides the technical and critical (in a good sense, of course ) comments on Bessie´s recording dates and gigs, you find many, many wonderful anecdotes, many personal affairs, narrated with innocence, naivety... (sorry if these are not apropiate English words to express it) The best jazz/blues biography I´ve ever read, for sure! Well, pardon my impetuosity. I´m not a critic, so I only dare say it´s been the most interesting and fascinating one... I highly recommend it! (and I don´t get any commission from Chris, don´t you think... )
  21. Obviously, I'm not Jim , but I think it's all for the best to have steady flow of new members. New perspectives, new knowledge, etc. And I don't think we'll have to fear that would water down the feel of the community. I completely agree with you, Daniel... or should I say Jim?
  22. Yes! Many new members have joined us in the last weeks! I think it´s bassically positive: new approaches on jazz, new impressions.... more controversy ... but I guess some of our long-time BNBB members feel we may somehow lose the previous "sense of community" Which are your feelings on this, Jim?
  23. These four sets are among my most beloved treasures! Bix heard in a very, very good sound (John R.T. Davies and Michael Kieffer did the remastering). But purchasing the four sets is a Bixophile´s matter ... to many Whiteman sides!
  24. Another big for the Sunbeam sets! But if you want to start with JUST ONE CD and no box-sets, I would pick this Columbia release with some of his best recordings, from Feb 4, 1927 to Sep 30, 1927: Bix Beiderbecke, Vol. 1: Singin' the Blues I have it in a two-offer with Vol.2: At the Jazz Band Ball, which is a good choice as well.
  25. Thanks, Chuck I´m a dummy regarding serial numbers for recordings, but how is this "Oh, sister!" alternate marked as C-2112-2 instead of C-2112-B when all the other takes from these sessions -although this one comes from a different one- are marked with letters instead of numbers?
